"A Ton of Blues really turned up the heat"

"......for a night that was "off the hook", filled with slow blues, rockin' blues and everything in between to melt all of your blues desires. A Ton of Blues really turned up the heat for a solid performance that left the audience begging for more." - William Weeks, East Coast Blues Review

"A Ton Of Blues perform an aggressive take on the old school blues"

"A Ton Of Blues perform an aggressive take on the old school blues format. A driving rhythm section, wiry guitar, and thick, heavy harmonica mark this band in almost every song they play. It is definitely blues, but it’s wild and out of the cage." - Bill Copeland, BillCopelandMusicNews.com

"A Ton Of Blues barreled into Boston’s Hard Rock Café last Friday night"

"A Ton Of Blues barreled into Boston’s Hard Rock Café last Friday night, and they kicked ass with originals and standards in a lively 45 minute romp. ........ guitarist Scott LeBlanc made his guitar hiss with fancy finger work, sliding some greasy notes around while ATOB’s mighty rhythm section kept a steady stump in the groove. There is no overlooking the heft this band serves up due to the drumming style of best dressed drummer Al Clark and knobby bass playing of Jeff Lorenzon........[singer Spud] Kelly is more of the "rangy voice used as an instrument" vocalist than what might be perceived, until you’ve heard him sing several different kinds of songs." - Bill Copeland, BillCopelandMusicNews.com

""If anyone else comes down here, I'll break their leg.""

"Four local guys who just started playing the blues together a little more than a year ago will soon be on their way to Memphis to compete in the International Blues Challenge with the intention of playing to win. None of them has been to Memphis before, says A Ton of Blues lead singer and harmonica player Michael “Spud” S. Kelly, 50, from Leominster. And drummer Alexander C. Clark, 35, from Sterling, said he was never into the blues until a few months before he met his band mates. Clark said his girlfriend worked as a bartender in Fitchburg where the other two band members — guitarist Scott R. LeBlanc, 33, from Leominster, and bassist Jeff S. Lorenzen, 34, from Fitchburg — held blues jams. She had told them Clark was a drummer. .............“I went to a rehearsal and there was good energy. They said, ‘We're going to try out some other guys, too.' And, I said, ‘Oh no — I'm your man. If anyone else comes down here, I'll break their leg.'” " - Paula Owen, Worcester Telegram & Gazette

"With the release of their debut disk Crooked Avenue, expect more awards for these guys real soon"

"While I do not like the concept of the blues battle of the bands, as the local blues challenges can make for bad music and bruised egos, over the last two years I have been left gobsmacked by bands I had not yet experienced. This year’s instance of musical dumbfounding was A Ton of Blues. As a four piece act, A Ton of Blues has kept an active gigging schedule since its 2010 inception. In addition to winning the band portion of the 2011 Boston Blues Challenge, they also won the 2011 Best Blues/R&B Act at the 2011 Worcester Music Awards. With the release of their debut disk Crooked Avenue, expect more awards for these guys real soon. Crooked Avenue opens with “I’ve Got to Let You Know” with guitarist Scott LeBlanc, bassist Jeff Lorenzon and drummer Al Clark nailing down a wide Texas-meets-Chicago groove for vocalist/harpist Mike “Spud” Kelly to deliver the matter of fact lyrics. While the subject matter of “I’ve Got to Let You Know” is a standard topic of love and lust" - Georgetown Fats, Blues Blast

"This four piece blues outfit take an aggressive approach...."

"After receiving a lot of notice and a lot of success on the greater-Boston music scene, A Ton Of Blues have documented their authoritative stomping blues sound on their debut CD Crooked Avenue. This four piece blues outfit take an aggressive approach to presenting many authentic forms of vintage blues music. Listening to them makes you feel like an old friend is sharing his vast record collection with you while they keep your foot tapping to a driving beat. There is a lot going on in each song by A Ton Of Blues. They always make you feel a lot of motion in their material. Opening cut “I’ve Got To Let You Know” features Scott LeBlanc’s blues lead guitar snaking around a shuffling beat. His notes range from nice and greasy to gritty and real. Vocalist Spud Kelly has that raw raspy voice that expresses the range of human emotion. Kelly keeps this one in a smooth, almost drawling delivery. On other cuts here Kelly gives things more of a screamy blues edge." - BillCopelandMusicNews.com

Bio

Adopting a modern, aggressive approach to the old school blues format, A TON OF BLUES burst onto the New England Blues Circuit in the summer of 2010. While taking notes from the likes of Ronnie Earl, Gary Clark Jr and the Fabulous Thunderbirds, as well as the old Chess Records' stable of blues masters, this award-winning guitar and harmonica driven, 5-piece powerhouse has been winning audiences over wherever they perform with their high energy show and first-rate musicianship.

ATOB were voted the Best Blues/R&B Act at the 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015 Worcester (MA) Music Awards and won the 2011 Boston (MA) Blues Challenge, earning them the opportunity to compete at the 2012 International Blues Challenge on Beale Street in Memphis, Tennessee.

The band has made it a priority to create quality Blues music, emit a positive presence among the Blues community and rekindle the support for American Blues and Roots music.

A TON OF BLUES has shared festival and nightclub stages with noted blues greats such as Johnny Winter, Guitar Shorty, Joe Lewis Walker, Ronnie Earl, Roomful of Blues, Jerry Portnoy, Sugar Ray Norcia, Nick Moss, Mac Arnold, Dana Fuchs, Popa Chubby, Sax Gordon, Greg Piccolo, James Montgomery, Sean Chambers, European blues acts Roberto Morbioli (Italy) and Fred Chapellier Blues Band (France), and many more. Their 2012 debut CD, "Crooked Avenue", earned rave reviews while two singles off that record, "Colleen" and "Sweetie Pie" received world-wide airplay. The band is currently in the studio working on their yet to be titled sophomore effort.
