Atrium was formed in the winter of 2003 when Becca Ward (vocals) and Chris Bourne (guitar) started writing acoustic songs. Within a few months Atrium was complete with the addition of Justin Haun (bass), Nick McPhail (guitar) and John Lehtonen (drums). Atrium's music can be described as aggressive, melodic rock with influences ranging from Deftones, Circa Survive, and Thrice to softer bands like Ours and Smashing Pumpkins. In the summer of 2005 Atrium recorded their first EP at Elpop Studios ( entitled Safe as Coffee and Easy to Swallow. The EP includes fan favorite Suffocated Identity. In 2006 Atrium played in the first "Q106 Homegrown Throwdown" battle of the bands and took 2nd place out of over 120 bands. 2008 brings a new chapter to Atrium with the key additions of guitarist Steve Gray and Derek Vaive on drums along with the release of their second EP "Social Disease". With this EP Atrium shows they are ready for the next step in their career. Atrium has formed a solid fan base in their hometown of Lansing, MI and attracts new fans at every show. They have also had the priviledge of opening for national acts like American Hi-Fi, the Prom Kings, RA, Theory of a Deadman Seven Mary Three, Pop Evil, Ashes of Soma, The Exies, TRUSTcompany and Days of the New.
