"Plug In and Tune Out"

I’ve been recently trying to get out to more shows again after being a home body for awhile. Last week, I was lucky enough to catch a few new bands from the Philly area that I have already fallen in love with, so of course I wanted to share!

I was at the Legendary Dobbs on Friday night to see Alien Ant Farm and ended up catching some cool local acts on the bill. I ended up staying downstairs the entire time, which left me missing out of the bands that played on the second floor. I went upstairs late in the night to get some merch from the Little War Twins who I saw downstairs and ended up talking to one of the guys from Audio Impulse. He was very friendly and trying to get us to buy some of their merch, and when I told him that I missed his set because I didn’t make upstairs, he gave me a bracelet to take home. I thought that was a great gesture and nice marketing so I asked how much the CD was, and when he said five bucks, I purchased a copy. I know that I’m not like most people because I’m always open to purchases CDs from local bands, and I have seen many people walk away empty-handed from situations like that. It’s all about supporting the scene so if I have the extra money on me, I’ll grab a CD even if I don’t know what the band sounds like. Now this is not always something that works out for me but at least I feel good about helping out the band.

With that being said, purchasing the “Plug In & Tune Out” CD by Audio Impulse was definitely worth the purchase! I actually feel like I should’ve had to pay ten bucks for it instead of five (then saw later that is it $9.99 on iTunes). It’s a 10 track CD with a catchy alternative rock vibe. I thought they were a good fit for the Alien Ant Farm show because they reminded of the days when Y100 was my favorite local radio station. You know the days when bands like Blink182, Jimmy Eat World, FenixTX, Sum41 and Alien Ant Farm were all over the radio and had videos actually playing on MTV. So if you are into that type of music, you’ll love Audio Impulse!

Listening to their CD took me back to that era of my life and it made me happy to listen. Perfect music to blast while driving with the windows down in this new spring weather! My favorite tracks so far are “The Breakaway” and “Shake Street” but I like the entire thing! It’s the type of album you can listen to on loop and not get tired of it. I know because that’s what I’ve done this week. The CD has been out since 2013 and I’m sad that it took so long for me to find them. You can listen to it for free on SoundCloud (here) and if you like what you hear, go purchase it on iTunes and support the band!

I look forward to seeing them play live and hear whatever new stuff they are working on! Follow them on Facebook (here) and keep your eyes out for upcoming shows. I’ll post when I see events coming up. - Bree - Philly Local Music Fan

Bio

Born from the ashes of two Philly bands Barry Phillips (previously in Broken Down Sunset) and Nate Blithe (previously in Revenant
Tone) began writing music and soon realized they needed more. They
recruited the best bassist they both knew, Pat Duffy. Once Pat started
laying down his amazing bass lines, they all knew they had something
special. Through the grapevine they found Joe Freeman (aka Freeman) and
with his epic drumming, made the songs better than any of them could
have imagined. The end result came to be what you now know as Audio
Impulse. Audio Impulse is a band that plays music straight from the
heart. With the belief that music can be a cure for most problems, Audio
Impulse plays shows with a no holds barred attitude. Not only is the
music paramount in playing a great show, but so is the stage presence
and energy that comes with interacting with all the fans at every show.
With a "we are here for you because of you" mentality, every show is
packed full of energy and entertainment and becomes a communal "purging
of the soul" for not only the fans, but the band as well. Let Audio
Impulse into your lives and you will instantly feel better about being
part of a community that is spear headed by music created straight from
the heart, and a groove that will push you into the realm of pure
ecstasy.
