The members of Audio Anarchy looked excited, but not nervous, before taking the stage Saturday at Wood Dale’s Prairie Fest.

"We’ve never played something this big, so it should be fun," said 15_year_old Jack Hayden, who sings and plays guitar. "We’re looking forward to it."

The alternative rock band was the first group to play at Prairie Fest on Saturday, which was the third day for Wood Dale’s annual summer celebration that continues through today. The band’s young members — they range in age from 11 to 15 — hail from Elmhurst, Wood Dale and Elk Grove Village.

"We’ve been together for three years, and we like doing it," said 11_year_old Jeremy Whitmore, who also sings and plays guitar.

"We hope to keep playing together for awhile."

Live music is a big draw at this year’s fest; 1970s rockers Foghat were scheduled to play Saturday night, and popular Beatles tribute band American English is scheduled to play today.

"I’ll definitely be back later for Foghat," resident Jim Petersen said. "I enjoy coming here and listening to music."

Those who aren’t quite as interested in the music end of things have plenty of other activities to choose from at Prairie Fest. The ninth annual event also features a carnival, hay rides and food from

13 vendors.

The festival, which is in Town Square at Commercial Street and Wood Dale Road, is bigger this year than in the recent past, thanks to an increased number of sponsorships, city officials say.

Prairie Fest will be open from noon to 8 p.m. today. American English is scheduled to play at 5:30 p.m. For a complete schedule of the day’s activities, visit wooddale.com. - Daily Herald Story Aug 17, 2010 |
