This week’s feature band has been on the station for a few months now. Audio Kings of the Third World are a Philadelphia band that describe themselves as alternative/stoner rock.

Rising from the basements of Philadelphia, Audio Kings of the third world rose to the pinnacle of the pop scene in 2011 with their debut Track, “She” on the Garage Punk Hideout Compilation. The band’s latest song, “Take you out” fuses Johnny O’s saccharine vocals with funk bass and keyboards to concoct a record brimming with ultra-catchy gems. Together with their standout tracks “Spend the night with you, Camera, Luv Propaganda” they are already certified as platinum underground post punk fun, Audio Kings of the third world can count on loads of future success.

The band has a show at The Fire on Friday, and another big show this Saturday at Milkboy (Center City location) with The Synth Sircus and Coup Couroux.

You’ll hear their tracks in heavy rotation all week. We’ll also talk about the band Tuesday night on Gashouse Live and of course weekdays on Brain Office. - Dustin, Gashouse Radio (Jan 02, 2012)

Introducing... Audio Kings of the Third World
It is with extreme happiness that I introduce to you Audio Kings of the Third World. I discovered them when I did a google+ search for unsigned bands. They were mentioned by someone in one of my circles. I did further searches on youtube and other areas and quickly came to really like their music. I emailed the band and got a response from Jack (one of the band's founding members). As I researched these guys I came to discover they're just normal everyday looking dudes who make really excellent music. Somewhat steeped in new wave 80's meets 60's psychedelic rock. What a powerful combination. I'm convince, these guys are great!

Why the name Audio Kings of the Third World. About ten years ago the band was playing a gig with the band Monkey 101. The poster for the show read, "audio kings of the third world Monkey 101". Of course it was just a phrase to introduce Monkey 101, but Jack and John liked the sci-fi primitive nature of the phrase and decided that would be their band name. Audio Kings of the Third World has been a band for about 20 years in different incarnations. It's been mostly in the past 2 years that the band has really come into it's own and has been active again recording and playing gigs in the Philadelphia, PA area.

Audio Kings recently released a 5 song EP called "Do It Now Till It Hurts which is available as a free download @ bandcamp: CLICK For Free Download

The following is their official press kit bio:
Hailing from the greater Philadelphia area, the Audio Kings sound emerges from a dark corner of the new wave era. Their finely crafted dreamlike pop tunes represent an idlike angst lurking just beneath the conscious world of the twenty first century. Gravitating between the spacey and the aggressive, their commitment to pop structure and contrasting indie sensibility evokes Joy Division's post punk and New Wave fringe like (Pixies, Sonic Youth, Gang of Four and The Fall ), and at times channels the Kraut Rock Kings of old. - Randall Webb , Discover 'Em Here (Feb 23, 2012)

Take a listen to a super cool band out of Philadelphia called Audio Kings of the third world. Fans of the Fall, Joy Division, Gang of Four, or bands influenced by those bands (like the Strokes and Interpol), will likely dig this band. Audio Kings of the third world make new music that most definitely sounds old school, and as an added bonus they prove that you don't have to have a hipster look or fancy haircut to make great music. You'll see what I mean when you check out the track "Hello Operator" below. - Cristinarocks.com, hang the dj (Mar 22, 2012)

Hailing from the great suburban epicenter of Warminster, PA (note: I have never been to Warminster, PA) -- local rockers Audio Kings of the Third World are new to the scene, but already turning heads with their spirited take on fuzzy, psychedelic, garage rock jamz. Formed 3 years back by a group of pals looking to escape the banalities of daily life with sweet, sweet rock n' roll (Hallelujah!) -- there's no question that these dudes have the attitude and energy to make it happen. By which I mean: rise like woah (like cookie dough?) on the baking sheet of the local scene.

Not convinced? Check out this video for "Hello operator" -- and be on the lookout for some noteworthy gigs in future months. Next up? December 22 at the M Room. You know Vampire Weekend played there too, way back in the day.

“Review - It came from the Hideout (comp)- One standout tune here is “She” by Audio Kings of the Third World. The Kings, who are from the third-world back roads of Philadelphia, list The Fall as one of their favorite bands. And indeed, singer Johnny O’s slow, singsong drawl has distinct traces of Mark E. Smith in it. And the fuzzy guitar is downright addictive.”
