"06.24.09 Album Review"

"In a short time Kansas City’s Audiovox has made a solid name for itself. Vocalist Martin Bush plays against the thunderous perfection of drummer Billy Johnson to create an indie-poptronica sound that should have record companies falling over themselves in a race to sign the act. In the meantime, Audiovox has self-released a six-song self-titled EP to give us locals something to chomp on until the band goes national.

The duo delivers only the hits, the kind of songs that brighten cloudy days and bring smiles to faces. Bush’s heartbreaking melodies and clean vocals are reminiscent of Play Radio Play or Death Cab for Cutie, while the arrangements bring to mind Blue- or Green-era Weezer.

Track for track, the EP contains more memorable hooks than a whole barrel of light-treading indie popsters. It’s hard to choose when there’s nothing but “A” sides, but “Sleep Schedule” and “Ready-Aim-Fire” border on faultless" - Steven M. Garcia [Ink Magazine]

"08.02.09 Album Review"

"Martin Bush and Billy Johnson have put together a 6 song EP featuring some of the catchiest loops and choruses I’ve heard in quite a while. From the opening track, Breaking Up is Breaking Out, to the final song, Mortimer, the 21:08 EP is a veritable sing-along of well crafted tunes. I’m quite curious to see how long it takes for these guys to take off." - Andrew Cross [The X Section]

"06.05.09 Concert Review"

"As a laptop emitted pleasant electronic gurgles, the duo showcased their seamless commercial viability. What's surprising is Audiovox's sound. They're like a tougher, but no less melodic, version of Death Cab For Cutie. With the proper exposure, Audiovox won't be playing to an audience of just forty people much longer." - http://therestandstheglass.blogspot.com/

"06.12.09 Concert Review"

"Both musicians have backgrounds in much heavier bands, which has made the Audiovox indie-pop experiment all the more fascinating to observe. At times, the duo sounds a lot like the Postal Service, from the programming to Bush's voice. He's a particularly poetic songwriter. By the fourth song, dancing girls had overtaken the front row, several of them singing along to every word. [I was, too. Audiovox's pop melodies have been stuck in my head for months.]" - Crystal K. Wiebe [The Pitch]

Bio

Audiovox formed in the winter of 2008 when singer/guitar player/keyboardist Martin Bush (Salt the Earth) recruited Billy Johnson (Reggie and the Full Effect, Shots Fired, Frogpond) to form a synthesizer driven pop rock duo. Arriving to mesmerized audiences and critical acclaim (winner "Best New Act" 2009, and "Best Pop Act" 2010 at Kansas City's Pitch Music Awards), Audiovox has captivated the Midwest with its unique, hook infected sound, intelligent heart-on-sleeve lyrics, and hopelessly catchy melodies.
In the short time since its inception, Audiovox has shared the stage with the likes of Passion Pit, Owl City, and The Airborne Toxic Event, garnered the attention of Kansas City alternative station 96.5 the Buzz (receiving regular airplay and performing at multiple station sponsored events), and has developed a rapidly growing, loyal fanbase.
In the spring of 2010, Audiovox entered the studio with producer/engineer Chris Cosgrove to record their first full length, "This Could Change Everything." Fusing influences from The Cars and The Beach Boys to The Rentals and Guided By Voices, Audiovox has crafted a sound that is as unique as it is timeless.
