Biography

Audrey heard thirty was the new twenty, so she decided this was the year to release her debut album, Ain't No Grave. Now being asked for her root-bearing, life-filled songs, from Ireland to Italy to her stomping grounds of San Francisco, Audrey is entering the music scene with a bang...

After several demos, a move to LA, promised opportunities from several contacts in the industry, and numerous detours, she was finally ready to let it all go.

Audrey came back to her beloved Northern California and decided she would sing for nothing more than the joy of it (what a concept) and for charity (to make up for lost goodwill in LA). So, she joined a gospel rockabilly band, playing at prisons, halfway homes and churches. Ah, much better.

Feeling freed from it all, she began songwriting again. (The nerve!) Songwriting turned into jam sessions with friends turned into playing a few shows turned into everyone at every show asking where the album was turned into…Audrey's debut album. Produced by the band leader of the Bible Dusters (her beloved gospel rockabilly band), Chuck Prophet’s right-hand guitar man, Max Butler, the “record” as they love to call it, began it’s two year journey. From Friday night writing sessions to what you now hold in your hand (or ear), Ain’t No Grave is the collection of songs written, re-written or “borrowed” over the last five years of Audrey's life. And it is dedicated to three dear souls in her life who lost theirs during the making of the project. In her own words: "Needless to say, but I will: There ain’t no grave."

Ain’t No Grave is available on iTunes and at CDbaby.

Lyrics

I Wanna Know My Name

Written By: Audrey Richter

I wanna know my name
I wanna know my name
I don't want riches, I don't want fame
I wanna know my name

I wanna know my name
I wanna know my name
I might be blind, I might be lame
But I wanna know my name

God used Jacob to glorify
Even though he was prone to lie
Jake met God and began to wrestle
God blessed him and named him
Israel

I wanna know my name
I wanna know my name...

Simon was fishin in Galilee
Jesus said, 'Come, follow me'
The Lord wants a rock of a man for a leader
From that day on He called him Peter

I wanna know my name
I wanna know my name...

Praise His name and lift His banner
My soul's hungry, I want some manna
Makes me pure, covers up my shame
I wanna know my name

I wanna know my name
I wanna know my name
I don't want riches, I don't want fame
I wanna know my name

I wanna know my name
I wanna know my name
I might be blind, I might be lame
But I wanna know my name

That Night Was the Day

Written By: Audrey Richter & Max Butler

The night I met you was the day I forgot my name
And the night I left you was the day I began to sing

Que sera sera
On the road again
Take the old highway
With or without my friends

Try to cross the horizon line
Driving slow, but I make good time
Twilight, I think it through
More pink than it is blue

The moon lights the next step for me
And the sun shines bright so I can see
The moon lights the next step for me
And the sun shines bright so I can see

The smell of rain takes me
Now dad’s behind the wheel
Keeps on pouring down
Mama’s voice calms me still

Thirty miles from Washington
Couldn’t say how far I’ve come
Don’t know how far I’ll go
And I don’t think I need to know

The moon lights the next step for me
And the sun shines bright so I can see
The moon lights the next step for me
And the sun shines bright so I can see
The moon lights the next step for me
And the sun shines bright so I can see

And I’ll press on with all my might
‘Cuz I look back and it’s as dark as night

The moon lights the next step for me
And the sun shines bright so I can see
The moon lights the next step for me
And the sun shines bright so I can see
The moon lights the next step for me
And the sun shines bright so I can see….

I Chose Paris

Written By: Audrey Richter & Max Butler

Just walked in, saw your name
Those invitations always look the same
So like you to plan for June
Keep tradition, I’ll be leaving soon

Looking back I see I never glanced
I chose Paris and I lost my chance

Mother said, Can’t have it all
Tried to run before I learned to crawl
Buying high and selling low
Spending silver just to have more gold

Looking back I see I never glanced
I chose Paris and I lost my the chance

How lovely the sun looks
Setting on another man’s shore
How rich my life is
So much that it leaves me wanting more

Losing sleep and catching flights
Out of my mind before you were out of my sight
So, I never bothered saying goodbye
I just thought there’d be another time

Looking back I see I never glanced
I chose Paris and I lost my chance
Looking back I see I never glanced
I chose Paris and I lost my chance

You and I

Written By: Audrey Richter & Max Butler

One hundred leap, fifty will survive
They put their names on the dotted line
But half forget to put down their lives
No one moves and no one dies

There will come a day, it awaits
We’ll wanna run, not just walk away
We won’t live up to every vow
But love is more than the law allows

You and I, I believe we’ll see the other side
You and I, we're finally free without taking flight

There’s strength in numbers and we are not alone
But the sum of you and me Somehow equals one

The weather man predicts we won’t last long
But I say Let the rains come

You and I, I believe we’ll see the other side
You and I, I believe we'll see the other side

When I can’t fly will you run with me
When I can’t run will you walk with me
When I can’t walk will you carry me
When I can’t walk will you carry me

You and I, I believe we'll see the other side
You and I, we're finally free without taking flight
You and I, I believe we’ll see the other side
You and I, we're finally free without taking flight
I believe we'll see the other side
I believe we'll see the other side
I believe we'll see the other side
