Euro Pop Cosmopolitan Cabaret With A Dash Of
Kookiness ...

Really juicy…tapping into the sensual part of us, the
gypsy ‘make love to me slowly all night,’ but with
more romance and innocence…the woman who gets the
Prince, or the woman who is the Queen without the
Prince…and if there is some dissatisfaction, it is
easier to swallow and more disturbing, because it is
real…Lorraine Ferro, Multi-Platinum Songwriter and
Dove Songwriting Award recipient

“Audrey’s music invokes the combined mystique of
world-traveler meets suburban-housewife meets
romance-novel heroine… it is a ticket out of everyday
ordinary reality and into the realm of unabashed
fantasy”

Audrey Appleby’s songs include some amusing
observations that will hopefully revolutionize our
culture some day, like 'I see American men committing
their crimes/Sitting out dances because of their
scared pride/Dedicated wives sit with them/laughing
outside while dying inside.’ She's got a point, eh?
…Mike Sembos, Fairfield County Weekly

Experience the parallel reality of living several livesin several languages at the same time...

writing style that has incorporated European,
Latin, and African influences. Having performed
extensively throughout France and in the
United States from Colorado to Florida to the East
Coast, Appleby has been described as “a
Gypsy Fairy Queen Bohemian Spirit who takes us
somewhere our hearts want to go but resist all
the time, a place where we abandon our heads and just feel it,” Nominated for Best Cabaret Singer 2005 by Fairfield County Weekly, Appleby is irreverent, strong, and sexy. She will pull you into a romantic world where a magical potion of sensuous sophistication is stirred up that is fresh,
inventive, and fun. Her voice and songs combine Joni
Mitchell and Edith Piaf with The Gypsy Kings. The original lyrics and music are an exotic
tapestry of Latin Jazz, Blues, Cabaret, and Pop
sung in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and
Italian.

BEWARE: If the name Audrey Appleby evokes the image of a prim frontier librarian, be assured that under her petticoat is a French lace corset. Irreverent, strong, sexy, and shy, this romantic world beat poet/songstress stirs up a magical potion of sensuous sophistication that is fresh, inventive, and fun. Her voice and songs combine Joni Mitchell and Edith Piaf with The Gypsy Kings; Fluid and lyrical, thought-provoking and lush. Her original lyrics and music are an exotic tapestry of Latin Jazz, Blues, Cabaret, and Pop sung in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian:

“Lost in a café
Don’t know what to say
But then the shivers break and start
As you stir my heart

We walk back to your room
Glance up at the moon
We dance a tango cheek to cheek
Make love on scarlet satin sheets
Whispering magic simple nothings,
The tragic secrets when two lovers meet
And now you’re gone”

As wholesome a name as they come, that’s where reality ends. In her fantasy, which she’s made a reality, Audrey is a world traveler, with a European, Latin, and African influence. She draws the audience into her seductive world of romance beats and lyrics which place you at a café, where you can already smell the coffee. A dancer all her life, her songs reflect the rhythms and stories that live inside her. “I always loved to dance. I started writing songs when emotion poured out after the death of my Father, and dancing wasn’t enough.”

To say Audrey Appleby breaks tradition is an understatement. On a whim, this golden girl with a bohemian heart and wild soul called Paris on the phone and performed in Jazz Clubs Le Bilboquet, Caveau De La Huchette, and Chez Papa, and on Seine Barges Café Calife and Balle Au Bond, for which Paris Time Out Magazine gave her a Time Out Pick Of The Week award. On the phone again with the Mayor’s Office of the City of Miami Beach, Audrey’s original ASCAP/MAC awarded song, “Miami Mosaic,” is being considered as a Miami theme song.

She broke a 100 year classical music only tradition in bringing her left of center, eclectic originals and jazz standards to the grand rotunda of Steinway Hall, 57th Street in Manhattan for Valentine’s Day 2000 and 2001. Once again, she was an iconoclast performing her cabaret aboard BargeMusic, the classical only venue under the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City.

To quote a line from Audrey’s songs, her voice and lyrical, poetic, fluid sensuality are “red flames on velvet.”
