"AUGUST IN JUNE"

Dickey Betts & Great Southern will take the stage at about 8:30. But before that, August gets to rock the house. August, a rock and roll, soul and rhythm and blues band, was a popular group in the Fox Valley and Chicago area in the early to mid 1970's. An eight piece band in the 1970's (a four-piece horn and a four-piece rhythm section), August has grown to a 14-piece ensemble with three trumpets, five saxophones a lead singer, a drummer, a keyboardist, a bass player and two guitarists. - Beacon-News

Jim Peterik appears on the track, co-singing and playing acoustic guitar.

Bio

AUGUST began in 1972 and performed continuously until the band's "hiatus" in August of 1976, with its last performance being held at the Paramount Theater (now Paramount Arts Center) in Aurora, IL.  Reforming in February, 2006, AUGUST became one of the few horn bands in the country. The original band consisted of 4 horns and 4 rhythm players. Today, AUGUST is composed of 14 members: 7 horns and 7 rhythm section performers. The band plays rock & roll, soul and rhythm and blues by some of the greatest artists in music. Not the traditional "cover band", AUGUST plays songs of artists rather than radio hits. You'll hear songs from the albums you loved. You'll hear new, exciting songs. You'll hear a band like no other.  The band's influences are varied: BS&T, Tower of Power, Maynard Ferguson Big Band, Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, James Brown, the Temptations, and many more.  The uniqueness of AUGUST is, obviously, the horn section. Very few bands have a horn section, and many acts use dancing and gimicks to cover for their lack of musicianship. AUGUST plays music. Period. Our story could last days.
