Bio

In 1998 after a short stay with a local original band based in Staten Island NY,Tom Ferranola (vocals and Keys) Joe Gansas(drums)and Frank Formica(bass and guitar) ventured off to start their own band. The premise of the venture was to write and perform music that had an enduring appeal with a destinct earthy rock sound that would ultimately become August Moon . Their first Album entitled “These Barren Feilds” was recorded locally on Staten Island and produced by Ron Thal. The feel of the album was rich and full and the songs to this day are as fresh as they were in 1998. The first album and a welcomed new member Mike Gansas(guitar) helped get the band to Nashville where they cut their second and first professionally produced album at the legendary Sound Emporium. The Album “Under the Mexican Sun” truly represented all that the band wanted to be; Strong musicians and simple story tellers. Mike Gansas and Tom Ferranola have proven over the years to be a great songwriting team. In 2001 they wrote “Sacrifice” which was a tribute song to those brave souls whol lost their lives on Sept. 11th. The band performed the song live on the Oxygen Network and local television. The song was accompanied by a video produced by Charlie Boernhoft a retired NYC Firefighter who filmed the rescue efforts at ground zero. The song helped raise money for the victims and also put the band in front of a wide audience. Since then over the last 7 years August Moon has performed throughout NYC from the Knitting Factory to CBGB’s. Currently Tom and Mike continue to write great music as the song list grows so do the fans and so does the legacy.
