Aum Soham

With a far-reaching degree in Arts, including Music, Dancing, Photography and Video, Aum Soham specialized in Singing, by working with masters such as Geraldo Maia, Baldur Liesemberg, Nídia Lícia and Margarita Schack. His wide artistical graduation has lately awarded him the chance to work alongside with Meredith Monk, a representative of the New York musical vanguard and one of its main influences, in a rather disputed workshop for which 24 multimidia artists were carefully picked out.

Born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, he left his Letters Course at the University so as to devote his time on Music and Dancing and even acted as dancer of the “Baleteatro Minas”. His first multimedia experience took place at this time with the performance "Archeopterix" directed by Rufo Herrera.

Settled down in São Paulo in the early 80's, where he began to act as teacher of Classical Dance of Ballet Stagium and later on as a Singing professor. That was when he made his first onsets in music, along with some innovative musicians of the so known "Vanguarda Paulista", at a time of a bubbling creative period in São Paulo. However, he chose to keep his focus on the study of technology applied to Music, his vocal research and creation of compositions wherein his vocals were used within an unconventional way, doing just a few occasional presentations in venues such as Teatro Lira Paulistana, Espaço Off, Teatro SESC Anchieta and Centro Cultural São Paulo.

He'd solely return to Belo Horizonte in 1990, where he dedicated to divulge and promote other artists and projects of a cultural stamp, like the CD "A Música de João Bosco”, which revealed 15 young interpreters, all gathered about the work of that so acclaimed Brazilian composer.

His creation, unique, may be heard out in soundtracks for theater and dancing like "Der Überfall Auf Die Konditorei" staged in 1996 in Berlin, but it remained unpublished until the recent release of his first EP, a previous sample of the album “MAGNETICO”, expected for the middle of the year.

Full of vocal experiments and sonorous novelties, his music blends electronic and acoustic elements into high-powered compositions, in which the voice, transmuted into countless sounds and noises, is risen into a new dimension, with astonishing outcomes. It’s hard to believe for instance that the sounds of water dripping inside a cave in the end of track “Douan” have been produced by the artist just with saliva noises, breathing and tongue snaps.

The EP “AUM SOHAM” was released abroad in August, 2008, with distribution by CD Baby from USA. The release in Brazil is due to May, 2009, first in São Paulo and then in Belo Horizonte.
