"Club Scout- . auralis ."

Trio Auralis features two keyboardists and a drummer. That's it. Keyboardists Chetan Tierra (left) and JC are both classically trained Cleveland Institute of Music alums, and Tierra has performed at Carnegie Hall. But their show is no piano recital. The bulk of their sets are original material. They do cover Tool's "Sober" and Billy Joel's "She's Got A Way". "It's like Keane and Coldplay, with a little Tool mixed in," says manager David Stair. And the group is so new, you'll just have to see and hear it for yourself.-D.X. Ferris

"NEO music news"

Vibrant ivory: It took a year and a half of studying at the Cleveland Institute of Music before pianist Jonathan Cernan (a.k.a. "JC"), decided he was ready to rock. The result is three-piece outfit Auralis. "After I graduated from the Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory [of music] and then did a year and a half at C.I.M, I decided enough with classical music," said Cernan, who graduated from Westlake High School in 1999. "It just wasn't happening. I needed to express myself in a way I can create my own music instead of re-creating somebody else's music." Formed roughly six months ago, the eclectic Auralis features Cernan, Chetan Tierra (keyboards and bass) and a revolving door of session drummers. While a full-length debut is being recorded, and Cernan is excited about new songs "You By My Side" and "Send a Picture," the band is honing its live set. Auralis is scheduled to perform, as the headliner tonight at the Winchester Tavern and Music Hall, 12112 Madison Ave., Lakewood. Tickets are only $5. Return Of Simple and Peter Niro are also on the bill. Call 216-226-5681 - The Plain Dealer (Cleveland, OH) Nov. 16, 2007

Bio

In Latin; Auralis means: “Heaven” and/or “Breeze”.

Auralis (www.myspace.com/AuralisBand) is a keyboard/guitar/electronica based band with drums. The two comprising members of Auralis are both classically trained pianists from the Cleveland Institute of Music (C. I. M.). Jonathan Cernan, a.k.a. “JC” (vocals, guitar, keyboards), and Chetan Tierra (keyboards, synthesizers, electronic bass), are 27 years old and 24 years old, respectively.

Auralis’ musical stylings are unique; however they are influenced by artists such as: Coldplay, Nine Inch Nails, Keane, TOOL, Sarah MacLachlan, Bruce Hornsby, and Staind. Auralis’ classical training is evident while hearing their original rock, popular and emotronic compositions. Songs like “Send A Picture” and “You By My Side” show their nuanced vocal layering and harmonizing, as well as lyrical sensitivity. Songs like “Control Freak” show their intellectual lyrical disdain for those who have been wronged including an addictive chorus and hook. Their musicality and performance, as well as their production and engineering prowess, surpass what their regional contemporaries are doing.

RadioZet in Poland, RMF-FM, NRJ-FM and Cherie-FM in France, and Lietuvos Radijas 1 in Lithuania, are playing Auralis’ music to critical acclaim. This has all happened without the aid of a recording contract and distribution deal, which Auralis is currently seeking.

Members of Auralis have played in locales such as: Carnegie Hall in New York City; Milan, Italy; Pretoria, South Africa; Marseilles, France; Prague, Czech Republic; Warsaw, Poland; various other European countries and numerous cities around the United Sates.

Auralis was recently accepted to perform live for the American military stationed all over the world, as part of a USO (United Service Organization) tour, on March 27, 2008. The legendary Bob Hope first hosted these events during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, until the Gulf War in 1991. This is a high honor indeed, which is indicative of the level of talent Auralis brings "en mass".
