Austin Dixon

21 year-old, Austin Dixon, was born and raised in the northern part of the Las Vegas valley and has been writing music since the moment he received his first guitar, a Jasmine cut-away acoustic, at age 14. At the age of 15, he recorded a full-length record in his North Las Vegan home called Psychedelic Moonwaves. "It was a story about going to the moon and leaving your girlfriend, super-dramatic stuff like that. It had no drums and some weird triple guitar parts." The record is in his bedroom somewhere in his parents house and he has plans in the distant future to redo it. "That record is where I learned to love writing music. People would ask me all the time what songs I could play and I would be like, 'Well, I can't really play other people's music.' It wasn't out of pride or spite, I just really loved writing my own music and didn't make time to learn other band's songs."
After Psychedelic Moonwaves, Austin made another lo-fi self-release named Yellow Roses, followed by some studio time with Boise band, The Very Most's front-man Jeremy Jensen, which was never released. Then after different line-ups in a band with four different names, he and his good friends Wes Wagner (drums), Jana Laidlaw (bass/vocals), and Jesse Buck (guitar), he formed The Parachutes.
They played some awesome house shows and gigs at The Box Office and The Alley Theatre, two local venues. The Parachutes disbanded in December 2007 as Austin would leave for college and then serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in northern New Jersey. "A mission really changes your view of yourself and the world around you. You meet incredible people everyday, on the street, in their homes, and you get a taste everyday of what a large part of humanity is experiencing, all simultaneously with each other."
Austin is now recording the finishing tracks for his second unofficial, first official, full-length "A". "I don't remember how the name ["A"] came to be. But the name is meant to represent me. I'm kind of saying, 'Here I am. This is me and my views on life."
