Bio

Initially a two-man band rooted along the banks of the Rio Grande, brothers Sergio and Adrian Romanos formed Automatic Weekend with nothing more than a guitar, drums and a raw down to the bone self taught playing style. Drawing from their influences such as Junior Kimbrough and Lightning Hopkins, their music was steeped in the blues. Now an Austin based band by way of Laredo, Automatic Weekend, is a 4 piece outfit. With additions on lead guitar, Fernando Gutierrez, and on bass, Mark Martinez, their sound is stout, diverse and full of drive.

Automatic Weekend recorded their debut album, Hermanos, mastered by Sam Patlove at Fresh Up Studios, scratching the surface of what was yet to come. Building off of the success of Hermanos, they enlisted the help of acclaimed musician and producer Adrian Quesada (Black Pumas, Brownout) to record their self-titled second album in 2016. Over the course of just three days at Quesada’s studio, Level One Sound, the group emerged with their grittiest, bluesiest effort to date.

Currently, the band is busy writing new material digging into a South Texas Country Sound with a splash of Rock n’ Roll n’ Soul. Automatic Weekend is set to start recording in the fall of 2019 with Beto Martinez (Grupo Fantasma, Brownout, Money Chicha).

The band actively plays in the Austin area and has shared the stage with various artists including Brownout, Bright Light Social Hour, Spanish Gold; Jeff The Brotherhood, The Cuckoos and Wurve. It is more than likely that you catch the group grooving the boogie at local dives, festivals; breweries and DIY party shows on any given Automatic Weekend.
