Autum Ashante has a gift for tweaking emotion.
This time the provocative little word-smith went straight for the heart. This time she found a way to take the anguish and anger of every child that's ever been raped, abused or neglected, and drive it stake-like into the heart of anyone within earshot.
It was World Youth Day at 44th street and 1st avenue in New York. Speeches, songs and power-point presentations reaffirmed what everyone already knew. The insane arrogance of man is predisposed but in no way limited to aggression. The best of the worst are debauched.
No one spoke. No one coughed. No one sneezed. All eyes were fixed on this most unlikely little messenger. And when she was through, they stood and applauded. They cheered the little girl that had just invaded the core of their humanity and re-introduced them to the cathartic motivator we call shame. No one uttered a word for at least 3 minutes, I'm talking complete silence!!!!

Bio
Autum's passion for spoken word has driven her to amazing heights. She has performed all over the tri-state area and beyond, all the while honing her skills.
Since her first performance at Hottest Poets Slam, Autum has been causing quite a stir. She has since performed at the Soul Cafe, Carolines, The Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Rush Art Gallery, Da Poetry Lounge in L.A, The Nile Valley Poets Cafe in L.A., The Cotton Club in L.A., and the African Street Festival, just to name a few.
In addition to this, Autum is the youngest person in the history of New York State to receive a proclamation from the City of New York For her commitment and service to our community.
