Segundo avance del esperado nuevo disco de los madrileños Autumn Comets, que llevará por título “We Are Here, You Are Not” y publicará Subterfuge el 25 de este mes de septiembre.
Tras escuchar hace unas semanas el tema que da nombre al disco turno ahora para el que se intuye como particular homenaje de la banda a Jason Molina, fallecido en dramáticas circunstancias en 2013. El tema en cuestión se titula “Molina, You Were The Light” y puedes escucharlo bajo estas líneas.
“We Are Here, You Are Not” se grabó en los estudios La Mina de Sevilla e incluye las dos primeras canciones en castellano de Autumn Comets. “Es un disco corto, con subidas y bajadas de intensidad pero todas las canciones forman parte de la misma línea. Son canciones honestas” , afirma la banda.

Tras publicar hace más de dos años el prometedor e inspirador A perfect trampoline jump, los madrileños Autumn Comets regresan con Moriréis en Camboya. Éste es el tercer disco de esta banda formada en el año 2008, un álbum de consolidación y con mucha épica. El grupo compuesto por Julián P. Campesino, guitarra y voz; Pablo P. Campesino, batería; Emilio Lorente, guitarra; Gonzalo Bautista, teclados y programación; Manuel Moreno, viola y arreglos, y Mario Perez, bajo, han crecido y ofrecen un disco más sólido e intenso.
"This is for everything" da las claves de lo que es Moriréis en Camboya empezando suavemente para terminar con un estallido de colores y distorsión sin perder la cordura. El sueño de Autumn Comets sigue con "Fuck Birds" y las preciosas guitarras y melodías de este tema. En el disco también hay reminiscencias a The Who en "Baltimore", con ese piano que se acelera a lo "Baba O´riley" hasta llegar el ritmo de batería. La épica continúa a lo largo de todo el álbum ("Eslovequia", muy intensa y sorprendente al igual que "Snakes at 3:00 A.M") en el que Autumn Comets introduce también temas más melancólicos. El círculo del disco se cierra tal y como empezó con un tema, "The sea won´t be calm for long", que finaliza por todo lo alto con más explosiones musicales.
Las melodías ya conseguidas en A perfect trampoline jump se nutren de una mayor energía y sonido. Con más guitarras distorsionadas y más momentos de explosión oceánica. Así, si su anterior álbum era más recluido con temas algo más desnudos, Autumn Comets han decidido hacerlo estallar todo y llegar directamente más hondo de lo que ya lo hizo su anterior obra.
Moriréis en Camboya es un álbum de indie-rock cañero cantado íntegramente en inglés con muchas cosas que decir. La primera, que perfectamente se puede hacer música en España en inglés de primer nivel. Y la segunda, que más allá de la épica, lo especial del disco de Autumn Comets es que hay margen para la sorpresa, para hallar en una canción un pequeño detalle distinto y evocador. No todo es como parece que tiene que ser, sino que de repente aparece un cambio de ritmo o un instrumento de cuerda inesperado. Se acabaron aquellas canciones lineales donde todo es previsible. Autumn
Comets was founded in 2008 by Julián P. Campesino (guitar and vocals),
Pablo P. Campesino (drums), Emilio Lorente (guitar) and Gonzalo Bautista
(keyboards and synthesizers), who currently form the band along with
Manuel Moreno (viola/arrangements) who joined in 2009, and Mario Pérez
(bass) as the latest addition in 2012.
In 2009 they self produced
“Parades”, fruit of their passion for slow-core and anti-folk moods.
Their enthusiasm and creativity drove them to release their second album
“A Perfect Trampoline Jump” only a year later. The contributions of two
musical heavy weights, Russian Red and Micah P. Hinson, served to
launch Autumn Comets within the Spanish independent scene. This allowed
them to do what they enjoy most—live shows. With over 50 gigs, Autumn
Comets have played on iconic stages across the country including Palau
de la Música, Barcelona, and have been part of the main national
festivals including, among others, Dcode Festival, Madrid; Primavera
Club, Madrid and Barcelona; Primavera Sound, Barcelona; and Monkey Week,
Puerto de Santa María, where Autumn Comets revealed themselves as a
sheer ‘live’ band to both audience and critics.
In 2013 Autumn
Comets sign with label Subterfuge to reléase their third album “Moriréis
en Camboya”. In this record, without losing a hint of their craving for
intensity and admirable pulse for crescendos, Autumn Comets polished
their intricate and complex sound— transforming into a handful of great
songs with light flooding through them. In this album, the echoes of The
Appleseed Cast, Slowdive, Bedhead or Red House Painters, are joined by
those of Broken Social Scene, Wilco (at its angriest) and Local Natives,
but also by the shades of Fuck Buttons, Jesu or Mogwai.
Their fourth album will be released on September 25th, 2015. "We are here / You are not" is an album that Autumn Comets thought they would never be able to record. A year ago the bands continuity was hanging from a thread. Their lead singer moved to Australia for a year and the intensity of their previous tour called for a break that they felt could turn out to be and endless break that would meant the end of Autumn Comets. Finaly the reasons to continue the band´s journey with live shows and new songs out weighed all obstacles. After 8 months of composing and recording at La Mina studios in Sevilla, “We are here / You are not” was born resulting in the work they are most proud of.
¨It´s like a first album all over again¨ they comment after the satisfaction of having overcome all challenges faced. “We Are Here / You Are Not” has given them the energy to believe in this new begining, the past and the times to come.
When it comes to talking about influences in this latest record, there was nothing set in stone. They have continued to dive into the ideas explored in their previous record “Moriréis en Camboya” ( Subterfuge 2013) by creating simpler and more direct songs. ¨It is a short record, with ups and downs in its intensity but ensuring all songs maintain the same direction. They are honest songs.¨ says the band.
