"Autumn Burning kills it at The Great Summer Smoke Out"

I’ve loved Autumn Burning since the first time I saw them play at the Rock on the Range Battle of the Bands. They have great music, they got heart and are just honestly some of the most genuine and charismatic musicians in the Columbus local music scene. That being said I was stoked to see them invited to help open this big show put on by our local rock station (99.7 The Blitz)

Unfortunately some miss-communications happened and I wasn’t able to have my full set up (camera, video camera for interviews and other assorted goodies) so I had to fall back on my old ‘sammy to get a few pictures. While I was watching them rock their hearts out I was taking some notes on what I liked and didn’t and I wanted to share that and a video with you. Maybe if you haven’t seen these guys you will GET OFF YOUR ASS and come SUPPORT! :) Head to their Facebook page and give them a “like” at http://www.facebook.com/autumnburningband

Honestly all of their songs are great but my favorite of the set was “Burn Me Alive” It just has that hook, great vocals and a solid mix of melody and power. Since it had been a few days since I had heard it I wanted a refresher and asked the guys for a copy of my own to listen to. Let me tell you, the recording and craftsmanship is top notch but really this is a band you have to see live. I have always seen them live and they seem to never have an off night. I also like the fact that Mike Morehouse is as big as I am (I always thought I would look awkward on a stage) and still gets up there and owns the stage like he’s as small as Lars Ulrich. The rest of the guys carve out their section of the stage and light that bitch on fire every time they play. Moral of the story, Some bands just have to be seen live to really get the whole experience, Autumn Burning is one of those bands who will never leave you feeling like you should have skipped the act for a spot in the beer line so you could have gotten a better seat for the next band. I have had that feeling before so that’s why I say that. Get a listen of Autumn Burning’s “Burn Me Alive” at their website here —-> http://autumnburning.bandcamp.com/track/burn-me-alive and then pic up the full album right from the website!

Just since I love my readers I included a special treat, check out the video for the track “Betrayed” by Autumn Burning!

A bit about the band-

Autumn Burning was formed in July of 2010 with the goal of taking the various musical backgrounds of its five members and melting them into one sound. What became of this endeavor is powerful and catchy original rock music that can be enjoyed by the everyday mainstream listener to the progressive rock enthusiast to the bonified metal head. The influences of rock, metal, funk, pop, and progressive can be heard throughout the band’s latest self-titled release, along with the 2011 release titled EPisode 1.

The band’s songwriting and performance fronted by the powerful vocals of Mike Morehouse and shredding guitar of Jared Blazer launched them into the Ohio music scene beginning in early 2011. Since the band’s breakout they have shared the stage with many of Ohio’s top local acts, including, XFACTOR1, Noise Auction, Sever, Wixor, Mind Pulp, Battlestar, 8LB Pressure, and Curse Icon, as well as many regional and national acts on both tour stops and festivals, such as, Fuel, Zach Myers (Shinedown), Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, We Came As Romans, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Bobaflex, Straight Line Stitch, The Devil Wears Prada, Attack Attack, iPhonic, Uncrowned, Texas in July, Park Lane, Pale, Ionia, and His Name Was Yesterday. These performances coupled with airplay on 99.7 The Blitz have helped the band to build a strong following, which they only expect to grow stronger as the band’s sound continues to evolve.

Autumn Burning recently released their first full length album, self-titled Autumn Burning, in January of 2014. This album shows much mainstream promise and a clear direction of where the band is heading musically. Keep your eyes and ears open as Autumn Burning shows promise of a band to see big things from in 2014 and beyond. - Jeremy Moore

""If you're needing a fix of no-nonsense hard rock, Autumn Burning is a band to look up.""

"Straight up rock and roll with an edge.

Autumn Burning has dueling guitars, one mostly providing rhythm and chops, the other on the leads, riffs and shreds. The bass guitar is funky and groovy, the singer wide-ranged and sure can deliver a line or two. And the drum kit, extravagant as it was, was utilized to its max.

Performing mostly songs from their CD, which I have and fully endorse purchasing, I don't believe they had to revert to any cover songs to win over the crowd.

Either the audience were loyal fans, or were new to Autumn Burning, they were won over and very in sync with the band's performance. Even the bar owner, Sam Levy, came up to me, telling me "these guys are bad-ass."

A couple musicians and singers of other prominent Columbus bands came up to me, saying that they'd love to play with these guys in a future show. Pretty impressive.

""And they never leave their classic rock roots, being groovy with the bass lines..""

"Autumn Burning's 8-song LP is a hard rock release along the veins of Red, Breaking Benjamin, and Creed, but at times has the edge of All That Remains.

Melodic and catchy, the songs are gripping, easy to sing (and scream!) along with. And they never leave their classic rock roots, being groovy with the bass lines, funky drum track, and guitar riffs replacing heavy chord use.

"Episode 1" has a token ballad, "Angel," which has a beautiful sadness about it. The LP track that stands out strongest is the aggressive "Never Enough."

Overall, the complete CD is very solid for those who like your straight-up rock and roll with a twist. Songs not appearing on the CD which are worth checking out can be found at their ReverbNation site. We are looking forward to more material from Autumn Burning.

Autumn Burning's "Episode 1" can be purchased at CDBaby. [$9.99 for CD or download, at time of review]" - Columbus Music Review
