Autumn's Descent

After much anticipation, Autumn’s Descent makes their full-length debut with “DEADLETTERS”. The luxury of time to massage and define each track has allowed for the band to bring everything together in a sound that is cohesive and versatile, yet distinctive.

The album presents a sound that is unique, designed to appeal across a wide range of the heavier genres. Half the tracks belt it out heavy, with catchy riffs and choruses that suck you in. ‘When It Rains’ and ‘Disillusioned’ are excellent examples that stand out. I have found one of the major draws to the band is their ability to come up with a catchy hook and present it in such a way that encourages repeat. As a whole, the album has an introspective feel to it. This is especially apparent on the mellower tracks. Half the tracks are slower, melodic numbers that do well to showcase the exceptional vocals. If there’s a genre for melancholy metal, than many of these tracks meet the description. The subject matter is fairly consistent, providing a rather gloomy picture of the lyricist’s success at relationships. Reading through the lyrics (the CD insert material is exceptional), it’s enough to break your heart. That in itself is a testament to the impact of the songs. Anyone who has experienced the losing side of a break-up will be able to relate intimately with the album. “DEADLETTERS” is put together exceptionally well, combining harder industrial rock with moments of great melodic metal. The album takes years of blood, sweat and tears and refines them into over an hour of material worth listening to for years to come.
