Artist of the day: Autumn's Pain

Autumn’s Pain is badass rock 'n’ roll through and through — on their Facebook page, they go out of their way to differentiate themselves from death metal, grunge and “pop princesses like Kelly Clarkson and Pink.”

The confusion is understandable, given singer Lana’s breathy vocal style, which calls to mind Debbie Harry. The band’s music is a blend of prog and hair metal, with razor-sharp guitars and moody mid-song breakdowns. Guitarist Mark Denman, bassist Jim Campau and drummer Will Bauer round out the St. Petersburg group.

The group scord a nice opening slot on Friday, kicking off L.A. Guns’ show at the State Theatre. And on Saturday, they’ll be performing at Market on 7th in Ybor City following the Krewe of Sant’Yago Illuminated Knight Parade.

Bio

Autumn's Pain is an all original hard rock band based out of Pinellas County, FL.

Influences...Ha! Where to begin? Maybe with the collective? It's too broad!! Let's break it down by member and see how it blends.....

Lana is the pop diva. She is a HUGE Beatles fan. She also enjoys alternative/radio rock. If it's rock and Top 40, she digs it. Her songwriting keeps the band from getting too heavy!!!!

Mark is the rocker. He brings in the classic guitar elements that give Autumn's Pain the edge. He is big into classic metal like Mercyful Fate and Iron Maiden. Mark is also a massive power metal fan - especially the german bands. But he also loves Lady Gaga and Kelly Clarkson....these weird combinations allow him to keep an open mind when it comes to song writing.

Jim is the shredder. He brings a speed metal element into the band. Jim is also very progressive in his influences. They range from Bela Fleck to Slayer!!! Autumn's Pain can always count on Jim to bring a fresh approach to the music.

Tom is the metal head. He has the hair, tattoos and piercings to show for it!! He loves Opeth and Dream Theater. He brings modern drumming that propels the music to new heights!!

The biggest thing that makes Autumn's Pain stand apart from our peers is that we purposely make commercial music. We want people to like our songs and to be able to groove when seeing us perform. We are unashamed of that, too!!!

Autumn's Pain began life in 2006, after Lana's second solo disc. She wanted to be able to perform the music she had written and recorded. She placed an advert online for a guitarist/singer, and Mark answered. The two hit it off really well, and after a little false start, recruited Jim on bass. He wowed them with his confidence and virtuosity.

The band began gigging regularly in 2007. 2008 brought a stable line-up and a plethora of shows. The band was also broadcast live via an internet radio show during a performance. Things were looking up in 2009 as the band first started opening national shows at the State Theater in St. Petersburg, FL and at Bourbon Street in New Port Richey, FL.

Some of the national acts AP has opened for include:

* LA Guns
* Lillian Axe
* Veins of Jenna
* Adler's Appetite
* the Ghost Riders
* the Smithereens

Despite a revolving door of drummers, AP has always managed to stay active in the scene. Gigging regularly between Tampa and St. Pete, FL has kept the band busy, but they are hankering to get some road time under their belt and test some new markets.
