"Avarice - Reverie of Flames E.P. Review"

Can someone please tell me why Avarice is unsigned? A trio out of Toronto with so much talent and an obvious love for their metal-punk fusion of music, Troy Bell, Alex Dabic, and Chris Flynn do not fail to impress. An awesome four song,16 minute EP, “Reverie of Flames” is full of energy, addicting lyrics, and a gloriously pounding beat that makes the listener beg for more. Any person who likes bands such as Rise Against, Trivium, and even Disturbed or Avenged Sevenfold would love Avarice.

‘Blackened Memories’ was my favorite off the EP, though I must admit, it was hard to choose. The song opens with a striking guitar riff from Bell, and the mix of screaming and singing makes the song powerful and memorable. It’s the longest song on the EP, totaling four minutes, 42 seconds, and is a true definition of my favorite genre: metal. Dabic is a phenomenal drummer, reminding me of Pickles the Drummer from Dethklok, and Flynn’s bass parts stand out with confidence. Every song on the EP is original and great to listen to. Avarice successfully combines the brutality of metal with the rebellion of punk, making a fusion that can draw fans from all branches of rock. The band is tight and the music is melodic and exciting.

While writing this review, I listened to the EP twice. I can assure you it’ll be in my car, my stereo, anywhere I can listen to it. I find it to be captivating and amazing. There’s no doubting that I would rate this album a 5 out of 5. I can only hope that Avarice will soon make it down to Florida so I can see them, but I will tell you this. These three musicians are going to make it big. Their music is the best evidence of that. If you don’t believe me, listen to the album yourself. I don’t care if you despise metal music. Your mind will be blown by the intensity and punk rebellion, and you may find yourself appreciating screaming a little more. - Progressive Zen - Jenna Cocozziello
