Avenue Road

Avenue Road

BandPopRock

Avenue Road is a funky, groovy, happy, schmoovy, make your body wanna movey 5 piece band.. We make music for people who are grateful to be alive.

Biography

At the heart of Avenue Road is a friendship. Chris, Dave, Po, Adam, and Ryan
posses a potent chemistry of melody, rhythm and harmony, and t is the
friendship between these five men that sets this mixture ablaze. The music
they create is unique and challenging, yet it embodies a keen sense of
respect for classic songwriting. Chris Sue's articulate voice and positive
lyrics are a refreshing alternative at a time when "modern rock" is
saturated with sandpaper tone and teen-angst melodrama. In a world of over
sweetened vodka-coolers, Avenue Road produce a smooth, dark-amber rum. Their
songs will stay on your lips long after you've taken the first sip...

Avenue Road's music is always built upon a solid foundation of good
songwriting. Dave Pomeroy's jazz training and keen ear for fusion music
creates a subtle complexity in the underlying harmony of the band. The band
has dedicated itself to producing recordings that push the aural envelope.
The 2002 independent release Dont Look Down was a local hit on the Toronto
scene. The self-produced release highlights the band's groovy melodic wit as
well as Chris Sue's vulnerable and intensely personal lyric writing. With
2005's self-produced Quest EP, Pomeroy and Sue collaborated to create a
recording that is far from a conventional "pop" album. Pomeroy employed a
host of unconventional recording techniques and devices in an effort to
produce a recording that was as adventerous as it was accessible.

The Avenue Road live experience has the reputation of being spontaneous yet
polished and decisively executed. It is not uncommon for the band to
abruptly veer from their planned set list to explore the feelings and
emotions being generated by the crowd and the atmosphere in the room. Avenue
Road don't just play "to the crowd," but rather every event becomes a
journey that the band and the audience embark upon together. Each leads the
other, yet no one knows where they may end up. The audience becomes an
integral part of making each step in that journey original and
unforgettable.

The delivery and intensity of the Avenue Road live experience is unmatched.

"We feel that we are all just really lucky to be alive. Life is short, and
at the heart of it all is that we're all just happy to be here and to have
the opportunity to express how we feel. We love to celebrate." This sums up
the tone of Avenue Road. They have an inexhaustible love of music and its
ability to express emotion. Together, they continue to produce a body of
work that is beautiful and prolific. Avenue Road are for those who
appreciate detail, but see the big picture. At all times their music has an
underlying sense of optimism. "Life is a gift. We're doing what we can do
return the favour." This is good music. This is AVENUE ROAD.

Quest pt.1 The Fool

Written By: C.Sue, D.Pomeroy

Quest pt. 1: The Fool
(c.sue, d.pomeroy)

Inhalation.
Exhalation.

Let’s make it a quest again; an epic journey into the unknown.
Let’s make it a quest again; so shall we seek so shall we know.
It’s not the choice but the choosing.
Not what’s been done but the doing.
Use my wits to find some peace of mind;
I remember and it’s not so confusing.

Inhalation.
Exhalation.

So if you wanna change, just change.
And if you wanna be, just be.
And if you wanna love, well c’mon then!
And if you wanna know, let’s go.

I Don't Mind

Written By: C.Sue, D.Pomeroy

I don't mind
But I just go round and round
sometimes
And then I try
To seek perfection in design

But if I get to sing
My truth today
And get you to groove
along the way

Then, I don't mind
No, I don't mind.

You're so unkind
The way you treating this unfair
Still on my mind
Like this cut inside my mouth

I want to run around all over it
You know I can't stay away
You won't mind
Trust me, you won't mind.

They say that
Repetition is the mother of skill
Tha you see the way if you find
the will
still
I seek sources, spirit forces
In my dreams symbolic drama courses
Sometimes I just let it drop.
But then I get over
Brush a little dirt of my shoulder
Chris Sue, you're friendly soul
soldier
Sometimes you've just got to stop
take a look at what's goin on
like the riff, you know, from
that Marvin song?

Just like Jack johnson goin on an on
So take a step back
Take ya breath back
Take your life back
and you might find

That in con-sequence
that in all of it
it was all in your mind

it was all in your mind
so change your mind
and change your life

Feels Right

Written By: C.Sue, D.Pomeroy

The truth is that I need some time
away.
Discover for tommorow, yesterday.

The push and pull fatigue my soul
astray.
I go within and I will find a way.

So I can love life
So it can feel right
Not to move so mysteriously.

The truth is that I need some time
away.
Thank you for showing me today.

So I can love life
So it can feel right
Not to move so mysteriously.

I can feel the ebb and flow today.
It's so pretty I can't looke away.
The push and pull fatigue my soul
astray.
I go within and I will find a way

So I can love life
So it can feel right
Not to move so mysteriously.

Step

Written By: c.sue, d.pomeroy, p.karim

Close my eyes and I dance for no reason
Raise my hand to the sky, I look away.
Notice all in the change of the season,
Finding trust is the hardest game I play.

Breathe it in, breathe it out, stretch it farther,
in the fire I now know namaste.
Coming back is the love I put out there,
Can't regret when again it goes away.

Put one foot in front of the other, take a step out there, out there.
We are meant to walk on the water, why am I so scared? so scared?

Living life to the full for my father,
Hold my breath just to see, how long was that?
Think ahead when I walk on the water,
Know this that when I turn that I will...

Put one foot in front of the other, take a step out there, out there.
We are meant to walk on the water, why am I so scared? so scared?

We are meant for love.

Put one foot in front of the other, take a step out there, out there.
We are meant to walk on the water, why am I so scared? so scared?

Mix it Up

Written By: c.sue, d.pomeroy

When we trixed it up, the confusion set us free.
But you know girl the jig is up, I like you and you like me.
Don’t you know we can mix it up, girl you know that could be fun.
Cause you know when we mix it up, we are jamming on the One.

Now I realize that you have got to go your own way.
But if that is not until tomorrow can we be today?

So I give it up give it all away.

Life can mix you up, it can turn you on your feet.
When you think of giving up, well that’s when you rise to meet.
Don’t you know I can think it up, or I can just live for today
What the heck I’ll mix it up, and be on my merry way

Cause this life is too short for me to keep on thinking about the past
And tomorrow is just a day away, right now will never last.

So I give it up give it all away.

I Give

Written By: c.sue, d.pomeroy

I give my heart to you, not in front, but inside.
These feelings are on my face, from them I can never hide.
Don’t you know its apathy we fight?
They ain’t got no shame, they ain’t got no right.

I’ve been so confused, it’s been a crazy time.
I thought I lost the reason to rhyme.
It’s easy to forget the way things are.
I strayed so fast, lord knows I strayed so far.

Just remember, to love what you live.
And remember, that you get what you give.
And I give my heart to you, not in front but inside.

Just remember, that there’s no one but you.
And if not now, when?
And if not you, who?

So I give my heart to you, not in front but inside.
