Upon their recent formation in late December of 2005, Avenue Road is a new band that stands out as having a completely oringial sound. Their passion for music and their academic seriousness have pushed them to write with meaning. With a distaste for corporate music, Avenue Road encompasses love, politics, the environment and psychology with a certain tinge of Canadian spirit into their material. They blend to form a sound similar to Bob Dylan, Neil Young and the Barenaked Ladies. They list Bob Dylan, Neil Young, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and the Foo Fighters as several of their musical inspirations. Avenue Road is made up of four close friends who grew up in downtown Toronto; James Gadon (Guitar/Harmonica/Vocals), Andrew IoI (Guitar/Vocals/Harmonica), Jess Goetz-Gadon (Bass/Guitar/Mandolin/Vocals) and Steve Rice (Drums).
James Gadon (Guitar/Harmonica/Vocals)
Since leaving home to pursue a hockey scholarship at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, James has discovered some new talents and has found his niche through writing music and creating new sounds on the guitar. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, James is working towards the completion of a degree in Psychology and Economics at Bowdoin College while competing for the men's varsity ice hockey team and continuing to pursue a career in Music. He only began writing music three years ago, but has demonstrated a great talent by expressing himself lyrically. Today, James has written over sixty original songs.
Andrew IoI (Guitar/Vocals/Harmonica)
An extremely talented guitarist and vocalist, Andrew Ioi is pursuing a Media Studies degree at the University of Western Ontario. He is a very diverse musician as he also plays the trumpet and has inevitably inherited a knack for the harmonica from his father Don. Andrew has been performing live for over seven years both in Toronto and in London, Ontario. He has performed at the Horseshoe Valley Club Resort, the Blue Goose Tavern and is currently playing live at various functions at Western. Andrew and James are close friends as they have grown up together since they were born. Their parents have been friends since attending high school at York Memorial Collegiate Institute.
Jesse Goetz-Gadon (Bass/Guitar/Mandolin/Vocals)
A remarkably creative artist, Jesse Goetz-Gadon is an experienced musician who has been playing music for over 15 years. Jesse is an excellent electric guitarist, but has recently played bass for Avenue Road. Jesse and James are cousins and have been writing/playing music since Easter of 2002. Jesse has completed a degree in Psychology from York University and recently applied to pursue graduate studies at the University of Toronto in Health Science. He has performed live at numerous venues in downtown Toronto including the Horseshoe Tavern, Club 107 at the Hard Rock Cafe, the Reverb and The Rex. Jesse has a unique and creative passion for music like no other and this is evident in many of his original pieces and his ability to create distinct sounds. At the present time, Jess works at Toronto Western Hospital in Rehabilitation Solutions as a Research Developer and currently lives with his girlfriend Emily.
Steve Rice (Drums)
Steve brings a presence to Avenue Road of pure energy and passion. He possesses the talent of a professional and really adds the finishing touch to a band with so much promise. A recent graduate of St. MichaelÂ’s College High School, Steve is currently pursuing a Business Degree from Ryerson University in Toronto. Steve has performed at many live venues from Collingwood to the Blue Goose. He is known for having a vibrant and loud sound and for his ability to literally play an entire night. Steve has great poise, and although he is a very shy individual, do not let that fool you because on stage he demonstrates an exuberance that few drummers encompass. Steve is currently living in Toronto and is dating JamesÂ’ sister Sarah.
