“A delicious lesson in vocals” describes this artist from San Jose, CA. Mix Sam Cooke, Brian McKnight, Musiq & Lionel Richie, with the harmonies of The Manhattan Transfer & Take 6 … that’s Avery! If you think his music is dynamic on a CD, you should see him perform live!!!

Biography

Stafford, a native Californian, is an accomplished vocalist, lyricist, and worship leader. He has been singing and leading worship since childhood and songwriting since his teens. His experiences eventually led to his first album with The Enlighteners called Good Inside in 1987. His next two projects, Lift Up Your Voice and Come Bless Da Lord, were solo albums with INDIE label Worship Him Music. All three albums are acappella projects. Like the composers of the 17th century, Avery hears vast harmonies in his head. He has a gift for taking the instrument that God gave us [the human voice] and making incredible music. He writes and arranges vocal bass and rhythm lines that you can dance to. His last project Bridges is instrumental, seasoned with R&B, gospel, and contemporary Christian flavors. Avery said, ”The title Bridges is about bringing people together. The easy thing to do is to divide; it is more difficult to unite and become one in heart, in mind, and spirit. Someone has to put their life on the line for Jesus’ prayer to become a reality. ‘...That they all be one...’ I figure, if not me, then who? So I am out building bridges.”

In early 2001, Avery was selected as one of the MP3.coms top Gospel artists. The title song Bridges peaked at number 11 on the MP3.com Christian Pop charts and number 15 on the Spiritual Pop charts. In addition, he created a Christian concert series in the South Bay Area. What resulted were opportunities for him to open for Anointed, Bryan Duncan, Out of the Grey, and Jon Gibson. Avery 's current album is Undignified. Producers and musicians for this project have worked with many artists including Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, Little Richard, Ambrosia, Rolls Royce, Frank Zappa, Ron Kenoly, and John Fischer just to name a few. With over 3000 albums sold from his first few independent projects, Stafford fans eagerly anticipate the release of the grooving soulful sounds of this new recording. This will be the album that will allow Avery to go to the world and proclaim that Jesus Christ is alive.

Avery has a Bachelors degree in Christian Ministry from Abilene Christian University. He also has a Masters degree in Pastoral Studies from Multnomah Biblical Seminary. He currently serves on staff as the Worship Pastor for Valley Church in Cupertino, CA. “Every time I sign my name, I tag it with Joshua 24:15: ‘…As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord…’ I have written many songs while watching my children play in the park and at the beach.” Their names are Marlea, Stephan, and Kerrington. He has been married to Nina for 15 years.

Lyrics

Hold On

Written By: Avery Stafford

I'm depending on You for my everything
Everything that matters
I don't wanna rely on self anymore
It's a change of my heart, my will, my mind
You're everything that matters
I don't wanna deny Your love anymore (chorus)

(Chorus)
So I'll hold on just a little bit longer … hold on
Hold on; be a little bit stronger and
From now on, my hand in Yours … I'll hold on

Since I met You, Lord Jesus, I've never been lonely
You fill up my senses with Your presence
I don't wanna rely on the world anymore
With the strength of archangels,
I'm gonna stand my ground
And claim all the victory of Heaven
I will never deny Your power, my Lord (chorus)

BRIDGE
You said You would never leave me
And I would never leave You
At the end of this road, there's rest (sweet rest)
If we would just see it through (chorus)

How Sweet It Is (2b loved by You!)

Altered Lyrics and Arrangement
by Avery Stafford
Undignified Rap Lyrics by Jared Duba
(aka Jesus Disciple) and Avery Stafford

Refrain
How sweet it is to be loved by You
How sweet it is to be loved by You

1) I needed the shelter of someone’s arms
And Lord, there You were
I needed someone to understand
my ups and my downs
And Lord, there You were
With sweet love and devotion,
deeply touching my emotions
I wanna stop and thank You, Jesus
I wanna stop and thank You, Jesus
(refrain)

2) I close my eyes late at night
Wondering where would I be
without the Lord in my life
Everything I did seemed a bore
And everywhere I went –
seemed like I’d been there before
But You brighten up for me all of my days
With a love so sweet in so many ways
I wanna stop and thank You, Jesus
I wanna stop and thank You, Jesus
(refrain)

Bridge (rap)
It’s A on the mic; the Undignified Show
JD in the house; I’m lockin’ the flow
But I didn't say you could walk away
("Mmmmm-k, then I guess
I really should stay!")
That’s what I meant to say,
(excuse mey,)
Don't mean to be rude, but I gotta say,
“A bottle, a needle, a miracle pill…
Wanna thrill?
Try going up Calvary’s hill!”
Who does more then my eyes can see?
He sets me free. He holds the keys
To the door-- I’m floored.
You're so amazing,
So you I’m praising,
You do the saving!
Don't you make me call you out.
You know exactly who you are
(no doubt)
I'm talkin’ to you,
you and yeh even you,
Cuz He did it for you,
and I’m tellin’ the truth!

3) You were better to me
than I was to myself
You are Lord, and there aint
never been nobody else
I wanna stop and thank You,
Jesus (for all that You’ve done)
I wanna stop and thank You,
Jesus (sending Your Son)
I wanna stop and thank You, Jesus
I wanna stop and thank You, Jesus
(refrain)

Get My Praise On

Written By: Avery Stafford

Well I asked You to heal my brother
And You did it
You hold the healing power in Your hand
I asked You to protect my mother
You did it
Only a child of Yours could understand
I wanna walk by faith and never by sight
Out of the darkness and into Your bright light
I wanna move to the groove
that I'm sending Your way (refrain)

Refrain
(It's time to get my praise on)
Get on your feet and clap your hands together
Stand up and get your praise on
Everybody move, groove to the music
Come on and get your praise on
Get on your feet and clap your hands together
Stand up and get your praise on
Tell everybody about a mighty God
Come on and get your praise on!

You saw beyond my wildest imagination
That's why the Son of Man was crucified
They say that good will come
to those who wait on it
I'm waiting for my mansion in the sky
I wanna sing a little louder, my friend
Tell everybody that He’s coming again
I wanna shout out a groove,
and I’ll sing it my way (refrain)
