"Guitarist offers spirited, passionate EP"

Equal & Opposite," the new effort from Potown Underground’s Anthony Vito Fiandaca, is a six-song journey through the life and eyes of Fiandaca who sings passionately of life, love, and the rough terrain that often keeps things from running smoothly.
Fiandaca, who is a fixture on the Seacoast, playing with countless local celebs, or just simply dancing by the stage at every local venue, is certainly a fine instrumentalist showcasing a serious talent on the acoustic guitar with intricate melodies, and effortless fretted rhythms that help to make this disc one worth checking into. Fiandaca simply seems to love music. He also has a very spirited voice that injects a passion and energy into his music that is undeniable, which, with the incorporation of these two traits (guitar and voice) sounds a bit like Ryan Montbleau at times.

The recording is short (just barely more than 20 minutes) and the material may have come off better if Fiandaca had waited and put it together in a longer LP release. Fiandaca at times puts too many words in his mouth, which may need to be reworked to keep from distracting from the fine qualities he offers as a musician. In due time, this will correct itself, it is hoped. Long lines are often hard to translate in the spirit of the music Fiandaca is jiving to on the guitar.

Overall though, the album is a good effort and a sure sign of positive things to come from the Seacoast veteran. Spirited playing, and passionate singing are often the key to success, and Fiandaca may be on his way to making his success a reality.

Bio

Anthony has a heart of music, revealing hope or confiding misery. Lyrically poignant and rhythmically outstanding.

Early influences included Hendrix, Yes, CSN&Y, The Doors, Sting, Van Morrison, The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. Actually Fiandaca admits that he would really wanted to be a mix of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page saying, "Just the range and passion of Plants voice was awe inspiring for me, and then combined with the amazing arrangements of the Page's guitar parts pushed me to work on both my voice and my guitar."

Later influenced by Ani DiFranco, Fiona Apple, Nat King Cole, Chris Cornell, Ray Charles and more recently Ray LaMontagne and Jack Johnson. These influences really show in his songwriting, but you always can tell that Anthony is singing from his heart.

At the age of 5, Fiandaca's family lost a son, Adam (8). The Family was devastated and turned to music to heal. The weekends were filled with Mom singing and Dad beating along with the beat. Anthony always sang and made up songs of his own and at Twelve took up his Mother's guitar and writing down his thoughts as poems. That eventually led up to his pursuit of songwriting and performing.

The pursuit has not been an easy one though, in 2001 Anthony left college in high honors and started to face the music. He left school in October in reaction to 9/11. "I couldn't see myself doing something that didn't mean anything to me. I have a hard time doing anything else sometimes." This hard time has reeked havoc on the personal aspects of Anthony's life. But through hard work and dedication Fiandaca keeps coming out to face the challenges that life consist of.
