Bio

Avi Colon grew up playing music since the age of 7, progressing with the influences and inspiration of Flamenco, Latin Jazz & Salsa, learning from his family members - uncle and cousin – the World Wide Famous Willie Colon & Santitos Colon.

By age 14, Avi Colon was performing on Wapa television with a comedy show called Machuchal, studying dramatic arts with a few of the best actors of Puerto Rico, such as Edmundo Rivera Alvarez, Walter Mercado and Flamenco dance with Hector De San Juan.

By Avi's mid-teens he was working as a full-time professional musician and bandleader, known for bringing Rock & Roll with strong vocals to the Island. One day in Old San Juan, Avi was practicing songs in La Plaza de Colon, when a promoter overheard- captivated he asked if Avi "... Would like to open up for Peter Frampton?" Two days later Avi Colon's band was performing for 120 thousand people in the Erambithorn Stadium. The mind-blowing experience gave a young Avi the determination to make his passion for music his career.

In the late 60’s, Avi Colon moved to Greenwich Village NY, where he joined Bill Graham in the Fillmore East, working with PIG Light Show & Joshua Light Show as a Reflectionist. Backstage he got the opportunity to rub elbows with the most incredible & famous musicians of Rock n 'Roll history, such as BB King, Bob Dylan, Jimmie Hendrix, Frank Zappa, John Lennon, and other great music icons!

By the early 80's Avi Colon's repertoire of original songs -known for their captivating lyrics and melodies- led him to years of performing between Woodstock’s Music Scene and Manhattans’ Greenwich Village. Avi Colon performed at venues such as The White Elephant, Kenny’s Castaway, The Red Lion, The Back Fence, and Terra Blues amongst others.

In following years Avi Colon engaged in motion pictures, such as “The Man from Panama” -filmed in Copenhagen, Switzerland, performed in many music videos, multiple short films in NY with Matthew Modine, and as a music consultant for the film “Once Upon A Time In Mexico".

In 2009, Avi Colon encountered a young group of musicians by the name of 'Petrojavic Blasting Company'. This group of musicians inspired by Avi Colon’s songwriting and character would move back to LA and release an album in 2010 with a hit song called, Avi Colon. This opened doors for Avi on the West Coast to perform in places like the El Rey Theater, LA.

In winter 2012, Avi Colon moved to Boston to concentrate on releasing a new original album. Avi would soon meet another artist by the name of Christina Samuelson. The creative chemistry was magnetic and the two immediately began collaborating in songwriting. By the summer of 2012 the songs were ready. Recording the finished songs with Avi's band, The Wolves, -bassist Rob Stoner, drummer Luther Rix, guitar player John Guth- former members of Bob Dylan's band. The high quality lyrics, vocals and instrumentals make this album, titled “Love At First Sight” a classic. The release of this album led to an invitation from Dr. Kathleen Hudson, founder of the Texas Heritage Music Foundation, for Avi Colon to perform at next year’s Commemoration Show for Bob Dylan in New York.

Currently Avi Colon is performing locally in Boston - original Latin Rock & heritage Ladino Music, working on his next original album, “The Boston Project”.
