Avitus

BandRockMetal

"a virtual musical menagerie of original material. Each song having as unique of a personality as the eclectic group of individuals that created it. The music moves you though melodic transitions of tranquil valleys, dark and forboding chasms to soaring peaks." (from Avitus' bio)

Biography

Just as monkeys to men, the story of Avitus is one of evolution. Avitus was formed from the scum that rests upon the surface of the pond of musical mediocrity. The band evolved by shedding members like useless appendages, only to replace them with ones that were stronger and more suited to their overall purpose. The most recent of these evolutionary events came during the icy abyss of winter in the year of two-thousand and three, when, after a brief search, a new vocalist was added in a union that is best described as audacious. With the addition of their new voice, the decision was made to relinquish any and all connection with the bands previous efforts, keeping only the name intact. With a new year and a clean musical slate upon them, the time was right for a new beginning.

Avitus began to create a collection of songs without expectation for any particular formulaic outcome. The result is a virtual musical menagerie of original material. Each song having as unique of a personality as the eclectic group of individuals that created it. The music moves you though melodic transitions of tranquil valleys, dark and forboding chasms to soaring peaks. As the evolution continues Avitus now is ready to bring their music to you. Their continuing mission, to rise above the mediocre world of music in which we live.

Lyrics

Clinically Cynical

Written By: Avitus

Taken back to a distant thunder
Forty-five said without a prayer
Held it in like a common knowledge
Skipped the prank from a dare
Until you took your wire
Spoke on my command
Poison arrows uncrossed these arms
So disheveled from a superstition
So in tune the strength from your hit
Can’t envision any word I said was true
How could you think I meant it

Summons take my hand in long slow nauseous ache
Forever were your words verbatim… give or take
Heaven help me if these knives weren’t soft and dull
I’d hurt you so your not so god damned cynical

Taken back to the watchers hour
broken bed full of blonding hair
Cloak and dagger covered ivory tower
To polite not to stare
Then you took one drink
Nailed into your wrists
Laughed a little till your eyes rolled
This aint no time for a revelation
This aint allowed but I just wont quit
Can’t remember any words without fuck you
Oh now I’ve gone and said it
(you’re so god damned…)

So courageous with your canned advice
You fear the lust, the cravings you enticed
But I told you once girl, I told you twice
You can’t be martyred by taking your life

Summons take my hand in long slow nauseous ache
Forever were your words verbatim… give or take
Heaven help me if these knives weren’t soft and dull
I’d hurt you so your not so god damned cynical...

Red

Softly spoken rhythms
Holy broken alters
You never would have known
Force it through to reach distraction
Drop another pill inside
I know what’s right but I’m lost and blind
I know it hurts to feel alive
Pushing wasted figures
Distant vacant temple
You never would have known
Drip a little through the needle
A little more to paralyze
And I know what’s right but I'm terrified
Resolve the spirit to survive
I’m lost inside your cold red eyes
Its no surprise I'm so weak without you
My sins aside I've been crucified
I'm lost inside your elusive / indulgent cold red eyes
Stolen empty vessel
You never would have known
Another blatant contradiction
Another poisonous device
I know what’s right but I wont comply
I know what’s right…. I know…
I’m lost inside your cold red eyes
Its no surprise I'm so weak without you
My sins aside I've been crucified
I'm lost inside your addictive cold red eyes
