Bio

Avow: To boldly, openly, and unashamedly acknowledge or confess the existence or the truth of something. Avow was officially formed in 2008 by former lead singer/guitarist of LUX, Jamie Steele. LUX played it’s first show at the Portland Memorial Coliseum, appeared on Max Sports & Fitness Magazine, had a wonderfully dedicated and passionate fan-base, and were on their way to making their break. Along the way it became apparent that it wasn’t built to last. After spending half a decade ensuring the musical integrity and marketing success of the band, Jamie decided it was time to go on his own path. He wanted to see a change in the direction of the group towards a more musical endeavor. It became clear that the founder of the band was very set in his ways and the glitz and glam took precedent to the true soul of the music.

Jamie is not confined to just being a singer or guitarist, he is an all around musician. His passion for learning has led him to become quite accomplished on guitar, piano, vocals, composition, and production. The spark in this young artist is a well of emotion and passion. Whether it be his moving melodies, inspiring lyrics, or sonic textures, his ingenuity is overwhelming. Aside from the music scene, Jamie has also made a mark in the music and film industry with his composing, engineering, and production skills.

Jamie joined forces with the former bassist, Joel Ramos, who had joined the band during it’s fallout period. Having witnessed Joel’s uncanny musicality and technical skills it was obvious what an asset he would be to the group. Joel has been playing bass since he was 7 years old, and at the mere age of 20 is capable of holding his own with any veteran in the industry. Aside from being a technical master his creative contributions are fresh and right on the mark.

When the search began for a drummer there were a good amount of prospects to choose from. After a time of auditioning and recording sessions with a few other candidates, Joel remembered a friend from high school, Ian Nakazawa. Ian had been drumming in other local bands and took serious pride in his skills and furthering his abilities on drums. After auditioning Ian it was a hands down decision that he was the man for the job. The energy and tightness he brought to the sound was incredible.

Sometimes things are just meant to be, and clearly it was the case when the trio began auditions for a lead guitarist. Armando Mota studied guitar at Musicians Institute and went on to playing at studio sessions and in other live situations. After the four musicians played together the decision was made and the auditions were closed. The core of Avow was established.

Avow is a statement, an effort to explore the soul of music. The upcoming album combines a matured writing style, emotion filled songs, heart-felt lyrics all unbound by visions of wealth and fame. This is music from the soul.
