"VW Loveless "Songs from 1F""

Let us start off with the explanation of what VW Loveless is. Some can say he is a Hip Hop artist, some would say he’s a hipster or even drug influenced. There is honestly is no type of direction his style can be specifically compared to. As one of the newest members of RVA clique “HippiesNGoonz” he puts himself the genre of “Rebel Soul/Experimental” which I would say fits him in my opinion. With this project, “Songs From 1F” he brings you a rather different turn with this short 4 track project. Producers listed are, D. Saunders, Han 808 and Demel Ferguson.

While the titles were named in a way that fits his image the first track “T.F. 1F” is a rather different track that he brings. Having gone through a lot of personal battles this track talks about what he was experiencing at that time. In the background it sounds like there are people having a good time telling jokes laughing at each other or what they call a “roasting” session. From what I gather he was basically saying while everyone is having fun he is thinking of thought inside of how he feels when he’s with people. Almost a cry for help in which, as a victim of depression, can understand what he is going through.

Next it’s a track titled “C.I.A.B” in which is a jazzy early 90’s house style beat accompanied by a sample from Erykah Badu’s song “On & On”. The songs message is stating “I got bags of money, shot outs to these bitches”. When you think of that you can only think of the thought that it would be another trap song talking about things of that short. If you really listen to it he is describing it to the fact that all artist talk about that subject matter and you eventually catch on when he says that it’s described as the “crabs in a bucket” theory as is the acronym of the song title (Ah you get it now). While this is one of my favorite tracks on the project it also highlights with a feature from his team “HippiezNGoonz” princess, Dyffrant Demeanor who in my opinion kills the track.

The next track titled, “TTBP” would be my least favorite track. While I do like the beat I can’t really say I can understand the concept of the track due to the mixing. I’m not going to go too in-depth with this track because I can’t give a review on it if I can’t understand it. It almost sounds like a chant until I hear the “I know” part. I hope he either releases it or gives you all an explanation of it but I cant.

The final track titled, “IDK” which is the acronym as well that describes this song is him just talking about things he wish could happen and things he wish he could do. The beat is a mellow electronic type beat with a little rock in it and compliments the mood of the song. I would say this song is just thoughts around him and his surroundings.

Overall this short project is definitely something you have to be in a certain type of mind state to listen to. While he and his image is an acquired taste to some I would say if you get to know Loveless or also known by the moniker “The Daywalker” you will understand him and how he is within his music. - By Roger Tyler (RT)

"Awkward Shaman’s Not Defined By One Single Genre"

Awkward Shaman’s not a freshmen in the professional recording and music industry. Through his dedication to music, the diligent artist has definitely left a stamp with cutting edge songs and lyrics. As a music artist as well as an entrepreneur in the business, don’t be surprised to see Awkward Shaman in the biggest publications. Only highlight reel type of work can be expected moving forward.

The songwriter/singer, rapper, producer makes thoughtfully lit, psychological psychedelic, experimental music not defined by one single genre. As an artist his biggest strength are his songwriting abilities and being able to write for any genre. “My goal is to affect personal growth and defeat ignorance slowly but surely. The music on my latest project Last/Lost Vessel is a perfect example of my range and versatility as an artist beyond hip hop. As an artist I want the focus on the music as I’m just a vessel,” Awkward Shaman explains.

So far in his career he’s released five projects, has performed at every major venue in Richmond, VA, has performed at SXSW (2016), and will be appearing at A3C 16 in October. Awkward Shaman’s currently working on three projects simultaneously: The Victoriah Project with producer D.Scott of Hyfin; With Flakes, an EP produced entirely by Yoki; and a secret project with a secret producer he’s not supposed to talk about. “My goals are just to continue to make positive vibes and connections with people across the world,” he adds.
