Adam Wright

Adam Wright

BandRockBlues

My tunes would be appropriate for the bluesy, funky rock band that is looking for a radio friendly and/or socially conscious song.

Biography

My songs reflect my earliest blues-rock and pop influences. I am open to people rearranging and interpreting them as they see fit.

Lyrics

Sandbox

Written By: Adam Wright

We signed up with great expectations
Glory on the battlefield defending our nation
When the call came in autumn ‘90
To accomplish all we’d learned
We deployed with total confidence
And the sandbox burned

They gave us shots and pills to protect us
The benefits outweighed the risks, but some were hardly tested
When the storm rained down on them
Few options could they discern
Set fire to the oil wells
And the sandbox burned

But I haven’t been feeling well since then
Complications
No concentration
Don’t tell me it’s in my head

The air was thick with oil smoke and toxins
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and dioxin
When the fire rained down on us, our mission took a turn
Bagged our dead and took our meds
Let the sandbox burn

But I haven’t been feeling well since then
Complications
No concentration
Don’t tell me it’s in my head

We’re doing it again, it’s never over
Our daughter’s in Fallujah now, despite what I told her
She wants me to be proud of her, and that I truly am
But I couldn’t stand to lose her in a quagmire of fire and sand

Magic Show

Written By: Adam Wright

I couldn’t find you anywhere in town
From Red Square to OP, I made the rounds
Like Houdini, you show up then disappear
I can’t believe what I’m seeing here

Caught in your Magic Show

You work wonders with my top hat and wand
You can turn your desert into a pond
Your fingers dance through a deck of cards
It was so easy to let it go too far

Caught in your Magic Show

You’re doing parlor tricks behind my back
You hypnotize me to cover your tracks
A lovely assistant gives you a helping hand
Your act is famous throughout the land

Caught in your Magic Show

You’ve got your secrets, but I’ve got my pride
Your slick illusion took me for a ride
Put me in a box, cut me in two
You had your fun, but now I’m through with you

And your Magic Show

Go To Work

Written By: Adam Wright

Come on, just believe what we say
You wouldn’t have to think so much
Just agree and go away
Supported by your chosen crutch
Who has time to scrutinize the facts and figures?
Ease your mind – we can make your pile bigger

We want you to go to your job
We want you to spend your cash
Don’t fill your life with complications
It could be over in a flash
Open up, and let the market have its way
Hold out your cup, it will trickle down to you someday

BE SILENT!
Sit back down or we’ll push you out the door
Break is over, get back to work
It’s good for you if we make more
We keep you down, passed out on the floor
You’re just the grease in our machine
You are the working poor

Friends

Written By: Adam Wright and Dan Regish

You’d lie awake, I’d feel you stirring
You’d alternate between sobbing and purring
There were times when I thought everything would be alright
And then a glass would slip and smash and all the pieces stick in you

We were there to help you up that hill
We were there for you, we are here still

The mood was high, the music always hot
Your eyes were bright, your ideas often not
There were times I thought everything would go our way
And then you’d crash and burn and all hope would be lost within a day

We were there to help you up that hill
We were there for you, we’d be there still
You didn’t have to go the way you did
Left me here to hold the bag you hid

You didn’t have to go the way you did
Left me here to hold the bag you hid
Inside of me...
