"AwryZen: Mid Life Con Sessions - CD"

Local roots rockers AwryZen recently seen at T.T. the Bears have released their debut CD, Midlife Con Sessions, and they're not afraid to wear their influences on their sleeves, from the sound of this album. The music owes a lot to '50s icons like Buddy Holly and Bill Haley, tracks like "Day Gig" and "Dottie Lou" could have been originals by any number of early rock acts. The sound is clean if a little thin at points but that just adds to the impression you're listening to a bunch of guys who just crawled out of the garage, circa 1961. Among the standouts are "Walking By Myself," "No Means No," and "Wrong Kind of Pain." Good lyrical content and solid guitar playing make this a worthwhile first effort. Catch them live locally.

"Audience Feedback & Reviews"

"These guys are rock solid. Talented musicians. No flash, but definitely quality music that harkens back to the glory days of rock."

"Although I had never heard them, I felt like I had heard the music before. Many of the songs had instant likeability."

"Sometimes serious, sometimes funny. I found the songs had a lot to say."

"Good performance. Tight arrangements."

"I was surprised to learn that these were all original songs. Impressed!"

"I'm almost 50 years old - and I've heard many club bands. It's been a while since I was able to actually 'listen' to a band perform without getting an earache. I thought they played well and had some interesting stories in their music."

"I couldn't help but listen. Kept me very entertained."

Bio

The music of AwryZen (pronounced: awe-rye'-zen) is based in the blues and rock roots of its members. Formed in 1997, these four talented musicians have risen from the ashes of middle age to challenge the dull humdrum of life over 40. Featuring original songs that are written from a unique mid-life point of view, AwryZen is guaranteed to put a smile on your face and a lilt in your step. Awryzen's material can best be described as "retro-rock originals", as the sound of our original music is very reminiscent of the classic rock sounds of the 60's, 70's and 80's. Awryzen's music is anything but one dimensional. What you will hear is blues, blues rock, rock, progressive rock, jazz, and folk rock. What you won't hear is rap, hip-hop, or heavy metal material, or their influence for that matter.

Sit back and enjoy the intricate guitar work of Jimmy Hallinan. Bob Sikkema on fretless bass and Dave Brown on acoustic drums lay down bedrock as the rhythm section of the group, while Tim Rose rounds out the group with his clever lyrics, unique vocal style, and innovative rhythm guitar work. With over 120 years of experience between them, AwryZen's thought-provoking lyrics, classic rock arrangements, and intricate harmonies are sure to entertain and stimulate the senses.

The band is currently in the studio recording songs for a new CD. Faced with the usual challenge of juggling the day gigs and the recording sessions, AwryZen is working dilligently to complete this project before the Spring of 2005.

The band's two CD releases are available for sale online. The newest CD, titled "The Basement Tapes", is a collection of songs resurrected from the archives at AwryZen's rehearsal studio. Their debut CD, "Mid Life Con Sessions" is still available in limited quantities. To hear more samples of our music or to place an order, please visit our website at www.awryzen.com.
