Music Week Presents: AXEL JANSSON
by Victoria Dowling July 7th 2016 at 11:00AM
Music Week Presents: AXEL JANSSON
‘Two of A Kind’ is about the compromises made in a relationship between two people, each waiting for the other to make the first move. In this digital world that we live in we seem to have forgotten how to communicate and treat each other to the point where both parties end up hurting and holding grudges – all because they didn’t talk. This song is about that journey shared by two people who are attracted to each other yet never quite seem to be on the same page.’ Axel Jansson.
Two Of A Kind is the second single by Swedish born, gravel toned singer/songwriter Axel Jansson. His debut single Shine was premiered by The Sun and Axel was then featured in The Metro, OK! Magazine, The Mirror and The Huffington Post and interviewed for TV on ITV’s pop show ‘Scrambled’ and London Live TV. Axel has performed at MIDEM, on the Coffee House Sessions tour, Busk The Box and I Luv Live. Performing LBC Summer Festival 11th June. Click here for more details.

Axel performed with Eastender’s star Shona McGarty in a show at Century Club and the two are hoping to work together in the future. Now a London resident, Axel is currently finishing his debut album and will be performing at shows across the country throughout 2016.

EXCLUSIVE! ‘Two Of A Kind’ by Axel Jansson
30 June, 2016 in News
Axel Jansson
Axel Jansson is an enviable pop-rock songwriter
Our second exclusive of the week is by a gravel-throated Swedish-born songwriter who writes sublime pop-rock songs, as you’ll hear

Axel Jansson’s beginnings in music were a little more leftfield than others. A left-hander, he began by playing a right handed guitar upside down. He was undaunted by the difficulty that this created for his learning and continued. The result has seen him evolving into an enviable pop-rock songwriter, as Two Of A Kind demonstrates.

Speaking of the song Jansson says: “Two of A Kind is about the compromises made in a relationship between two people, each waiting for the other to make the first move. In this digital world that we live in we seem to have forgotten how to communicate and treat each other to the point where both parties end up hurting and holding grudges – all because they didn’t talk. This song is about that journey shared by two people who are attracted to each other yet never quite seem to be on the same page.”

While bitterness might form part of the song’s inspiration, Two Of A Kind never sounds anything less than welcoming. He takes inspiration from The Killers, Coldplay and John Mayer, along with 60s’ and 70s’ rock. We think that any fan of pop-rock will enjoy this track, especially if you have a fancy for Train and the Goo Goo Dolls. As always, though, we’ll leave the decision making up to you… - Songwriting Magazine

We say

Axel Jansson is a London-based/Swedish-born singer and songwriter, and this is his follow-up to the debut single Shine, from earlier in the year. He was first drawn to music when he started to explore his father’s extensive record collection as a kid. Absorbing and soaking up the sounds of many of the great male solo stars of the 60’s and 70’s, they influenced the gritty, husky, heartfelt tone that you’ll find in his own work. He’s currently prepping his debut album and will be out on the road playing both solo shows, and with his three other band members. See him this weekend (July 9) making a Saturday Sessions appearance at Mau Mau Bar on Portobello Road and at The World’s End on July 16. This upbeat love song describes compromises two people often make whilst each waits for the other to make an initial move, especially in the modern dating game where the spoken-word is often forgotten in favour of mis-interpreted digital messaging. It’s exactly the sort of well-crafted acoustic-driven pop that deserves to find a large and welcoming audience here in the UK and beyond.

For me, this is a great quality song with an amazing hook and I’ve been singing it since I heard it last Monday. Instantly stuck in my head so he is doing something right. You may not know a lot about Axel just yet but I am confident you will in the very near future.

Here is the brand new single and I am thrilled Axel chose Pop On Down for the WORLD PREMIERE – Enjoy! - Pop On Down

"The Postbox Podcast"

“The Postbox Podcast
FEATURED ARTIST #8: Axel Jansson
POSTED ON FEBRUARY 29, 2016FEBRUARY 29, 2016 BY BRI WINK POSTED IN FEATURED
ARTIST
This week’s Featured Artist is Axel Jansson with his infectious track, “Shine
(https://soundcloud.com/hart-media/axel-jansson-shine/s-9QTcS).”
I’m a sucker for a bit of a country track!
“Shine” is Axel Jansson’s debut release, and it’s produced by James D Bell, who has artists like
AC/DC, Aerosmith, and ELO on his roster. Those are tough acts to follow, but the Postbox crew
loved Axel’s catchy track.
Our guest this week, the lovely Katie Boden from BBC London, may be an alt-pop specialist, but
she loves a good folk tune. She really enjoyed “Shine,” especially the addition of the strings. She
gave it a solid 7 out of 10.
George loved the guitar work, calling it “more complicated” than the average country/folk song.
He gave it a 7.5 out of 10, while Stephen granted “Shine” a great score of 8.5 out of 10. He loved
the hook and how radio-friendly it was, stating that it would make a great single.
“Shine” may be Axel’s debut release, but he’s been busy doing extensive touring of the UK and his
native Sweden. He just finished a string of Coffee House Sessions last fall, where he wowed the
crowd with his heartfelt songwriting and lush vocals.
“Time You Were Told” showcases Axel’s great voice as well as his ability to craft beautiful lyrics.
It’s one of those tracks that makes you stop and listen. It’s mesmerizing, and a wonderful
showcase of what he can bring to the table. We think you’re worth your weight in gold, Axel.
One of our personal favorites is “Two Of A Kind.” It’s an infectious alt-rock anthem with a lot of
heart. Heads will bob and toes will tap when the chorus kicks in, and you’ll probably be singing
along by the end. This song sounds like he’s been making radio-friendly music for years. We can’t
believe he’s only a newcomer. Word is that this track will be featured when “Shine” officially
drops in April.
And last but not least, his cover of Ellie Goulding’s sexy “Love Me Like You Do” is jawdroppingly
good. He completely transforms the song, highlighting the vulnerability of the lyrics
with an emotional pull that Ellie never managed to reach. Stripping it down to just a guitar, giving
it a folk-vibe, and switching up the melody a bit all works in his favor. It is SO GOOD. It sounds
like a completely different track, and we’re obsessed.
We can’t wait to see what else Axel Jansson has in store. “Shine” is set to drop 1 April, along with
two other tracks. In the meantime, be sure to follow him on Twitter
(https://twitter.com/eaxeljansson) and Facebook
(https://www.facebook.com/axeljanssonmusic/) to stay up to date with all his latest info. And
while you’re at it, you can also listen to the full Postbox Podcast below:

PREMIERE: Axel Jansson unleashes his debut single ‘Shine’
Swedish-born Axel Jansson is a hugely exciting artist who has already achieved a great deal before his official debut single has
even been released.

Since moving to London a few years ago to pursue a career in music, he’s played at a number of festivals, including the world
famous Midem Festival at Cannes, supported the likes of Turin Breaks and Jo Hamilton as well as heading back to his native
Sweden for an extensive tour. Now, he’s ready to release his debut single and we’re delighted to be able to bring you the premiere of
‘Shine‘.
Featuring his unique & passionate vocals, driving rhythms and a festival-ready, anthemic chorus, ‘Shine’ is a very solid debut from
an artist who has clearly worked long and hard at perfecting his sound. The track was produced by James D Bell, who has
previously worked with artists such as Aerosmith, ACDC, Squeeze and ELO, and he and Jansson clearly enjoy a great working
relationship, such is the brilliant fusion of vocals and instrumentation on ‘Shine’. Talking about the track, Jansson said, ! " #

"Coffee House Sessions Interview Axel Jansson"

Coffee House Sessions Interview: Axel Jansson
Friday 16-10-2015 - 22:32

interview
So, what inspired you start a career in music?
One of the biggest influences was probably my Fathers record collection. He’s not a musician but he has a big passion for music. So I have always been growing up with music. He was into the old 60’s, 70’s and a lot of blues music. So I think quite early on I got inspired. And when I was like 10,11 years old I started playing guitar. It didn’t sound that good but it sort of developed into this passion.

Well we are looking forward to hearing you play later.
Thank you

What are your top 3 influences, you mentioned your fathers record collection
Other artists I guess, I’m really inspired by different types of music. Like Blues music is a big inspiration, even if I don’t play it. So like different genres, even classical music and Eastern music. And also it is a lifestyle which suits me, instead of like an office job. It’s just a combination of things.

What’s it like doing our Coffee House tours then?
This is our 2nd gig, so far so good. Very intense but we have it all planned and figured out. As long as there is a good crowd we will have a great time

So, you’ve got a lot of dates over such a short space of time.
23 in two weeks. And between that we go back to London, that’s where I live. We go back there on Saturday to do our release for our first single which has sort of landed in the middle of all this.

It’s almost as busy as being a student
Yeah, exactly

Do you find it challenging as a vocalist to keep your stamina and not get tired? With such a packed scheduled.
Yeah, it’s a challenge but the way to get around it is just to remain consistent.

So we mentioned the single. Shine a Light
I’m excited; we’ve been developing the product for quite a few years and we’ve been working with some really great people so we’re excited to release the brand and the product.

So what’s the song about what inspired you to write it?
Well it’s looking back because time flys. Life get tougher and tougher and you face more challenges and it becomes more real. It’s about enjoying now.

So we have mentioned what you’re doing for the next couple of weeks but what are your plans for the upcoming months?
Obviously the single is the next big thing then we are going to carry on playing gigs and promote the single. Then we are planning on doing a second ep which will come out at the begging of next year, which we are really excited about.

So for all of those who enjoyed the Coffee House Tour where are you heading next?
I think its Essex tomorrow but we have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and its all on there where are next gigs are.

So for those who would like to hear more of you music where can they find you?

"Coffee House Sessions Axel Jansson"

Coffee House Sessions: Axel Jansson
REBECCA HOWE on 15 October 2015 at 1:00pm

AS WE DIVE HEAD FIRST INTO THE COLDER AUTUMN MONTHS, THE COFFEE HOUSE SESSIONS CONTINUE TO WARM OUR MUSICAL TASTE BUDS WITH A FRESHLY BREWED ACOUSTIC SET EVERY WEEK.

EDITED BY ZAHNA EKLUND.

In this week’s Coffee House Sessions, Dylan’s bar was treated to the 70’s blues sounds of Swedish singer-songwriter, Axel Jansson. I sat down with Axel before his set to delve more into his story.

“I’m from Gothenburg, Sweden,” Axel tells me. “I’ve been living in London for the past 5 years. I started off at a music college and that was the starting point for me to do music as a job. I was lucky enough to meet my producer there, James Bell. That’s the producer I’m still working with today.”

Having been writing music since he was 17, Axel’s passion for travel and blues can definitely be heard in his sound, which comes adorned with a modern, pop twist that keeps it current.

“The music I listen to is a lot of blues music and a lot of the great singer-songwriters of the 60’s and 70’s. So that music is a big inspiration. You have to be modern in a sense as well and you have to create something new so I think it’s a great mix,” he explains.

Making Axel’s music unique through the all too common singer-songwriter vibe is his soulful, gritty and at times Kurt Cobain-esque voice, in which you can hear his Swedish routes.

Being the third biggest exporter of music in the world, Sweden is finding a knack for sending their talent worldwide, which as I discover came as quite a shock to Axel: “It’s interesting, I’ve been having this conversation with a lot of people. My expectations in coming to London was to face big competition in music, but the hardest competition was actually the Swedes that are already here to be honest. I didn’t expect that!”

With a single release this week and a debut album on its way, it seems London is finding a comfortable home for our international friends.

Axel’s cover of Ellie Goulding’s ‘Love Me Like You Do’ is definitely worth a watch here. - Nerve Media

"Laddar For Ljusnerock"

pigga ögon i tröttmörka ringar.

James Bell och produktionsbolaget All Out Music på samma skola. Tillsammans med
basisten Lukas Ask och trummisen Tom Sismey ska de nu i sommar släppa sin första
EP: Shine a Light.

Matterz Interviews : Axel Jansson (No. 2)

Hey Axel, how’re you? How’ve you been since we spoke last? Hi, I’m real good thanks. It’s been a busy spring for me and it looks as if the summer’s going to follow the same pattern. The last single (Shine) did really well and that means I now need to top that :)

Two of a Kind is a great track, how did this follow up to your debut, Shine, come about?
It felt quite natural for me to go for ‘Two Of A Kind’ this time around. It’s a little darker than ‘Shine’, but it’s still got loads of positive energy. I think you need that for a summer release. It’s a fun song to play live, the band, all enjoy it. Hope the audience do to!

Did you find releasing your second single a smoother journey than the first?
I’m not sure there’s such a thing as a smooth journey, it’s both proactive and reactive all at the same time, lol and you never know what’s coming round the corner, but you’d better be ready for it when it does. Behind every release there’s a lot of hard work and I’m lucky to have a great team of people behind the scenes who are also giving this a 100%. We got a great response to ‘Shine’, the first time around and now our job is to build on that and get an even better response this time around. I think for any up and coming artist there will always be days that feel tough, but at the end of the day you have to give full commitment and really like what you do to push through it. I love what I do and I’m feeling really positive.

There are some really amazing press shots for this single, what was the process of these? What was the inspiration?
Thanks! I’ve been working with a crazy talented fine arts photographer called Linda Blacker. She’s fantastic at what she does and contributed hugely with both ‘Shine’ and ‘Two Of A Kind’. There are so many different ways of playing with the concept when it comes to artwork and video’s. Linda really gets the songs.

You’ve been working with Shona McGarthy, how did this partnership start? Have you enjoyed working with her?
Shona and I met through mutual friends. She’s lovely to work with. She has a beautiful voice and is a brilliantly versatile singer and musician. It was a lovely compliment that she liked my songs and her surprise guest appearance at one of my gigs earlier this year was great fun. I hope we’ll get a chance to do something again.

What is on the cards for the future of Axel Jansson? Can we expect an album on the horizon?
The immediate future is all about ‘Two Of A Kind’ and it will be a busy summer promoting that with gigs and a radio tour, so probably a lot of travelling too! We’re also about to shoot the new video which I am really excited about. You can definitely expect an album and hopefully sooner rather than later, I’m regularly in the studio writing and recording and I’ve got some really exciting new stuff coming very soon.

And how about live performances, have you got anything upcoming? Where can we head down to check you out?
For sure. We’ll be at Mau Mau in Portobello Road this weekend (Sat 9th July), at The Worlds End, Finsbury Park on the 16th July playing the UMA Weekender and the Nottinghill Arts Club on the 4th August. It’s probably best to keep checking the website and social media pages as gigs are always being added.

Bio

Axel Jansson is a London-based/Swedish-born singer and songwriter. He was first drawn to music when he started to explore his father’s record collection as a kid, absorbing and soaking up the sounds of the 60’s and 70’s that would influence the gritty, husky, heartfelt tone that you’ll find in his own work.  Axel’s song writing is honest, infusing lush melodies with alternative rock and a big dose of bold pop.

His debut single ‘Shine’ was premiered by The Sun in April 2016 with a live appearance at London’s Century Club, leading  to features in The Metro, OK! Magazine, The Mirror and The Huffington Post and interviews on London Live TV and ITV’s pop show ‘Scrambled’. Axel has performed at MIDEM, on the Coffee House Sessions tour, Busk The Box, I Luv Live and the LBC Summer Festival June 2016.

'Two Of A Kind' the 2nd Single was released in July 2016 alongside a Regional Radio Tour, taking in England, Scotland and Wales and gaining Record Of The Week on Tim Cockers Virgin Radio show.

“It’s exactly the sort of well-crafted acoustic-driven pop that deserves to find a large and welcoming audience here in the UK and beyond.” – Record Of The Day

“The result has seen him evolving into an enviable pop-rock songwriter, as Two Of A Kind demonstrates.” - Songwriting Magazine

“We think that any fan of pop-rock will enjoy this track, especially if you have a fancy for Train and the Goo Goo Dolls. As always, though, we’ll leave the decision making up to you…” – Songwriting Magazine

“Time You Were Told, showcases Axel’s great voice as well as his ability to craft beautiful lyrics. It’s one of those tracks that make you stop and listen. It’s mesmerizing, and a wonderful showcase of what he can bring to the table. We think you’re worth your weight in gold, Axel.” - Postbox Pod Cast. Audio Boom.

"Swedish-born Axel Jansson is a hugely exciting artist" - Gigslutz

"Axel Jansson’s song writing is heartfelt and honest" - Indie Week

"It's very different from your usual guitar-pop by way of Sweden, and that’s what makes Axel quite exciting" - The Popshock
