Axis combines blues, alternative, and metal with the no-holds-barred guitar-driven aggression of classic rock to create one the most exciting sounds on the Hudson Valley rock scene. Featuring the blues-drenched, soulful virtuosity of guitarist Jasper Kelsey, the driving bass and fiery lead vocals of Joe Phillips and the primal, slamming drums of Tyler DiRoma, Axis is defined by their raw, uncompromising approach a power trio in the tradition of such legendary bands as Cream and ZZ Top, but with a thoroughly modern edge that reflects the stylistic breadth and power of the best post-punk rock & roll. Their live shows are defined by extensive improvised jams, loudness, and high energy.


Axis began life in Kelsey's basement iduring the summer of 2012. The personnel was fluid in the beginning. DiRoma took a turn on bass before settling on drums; other drummers and bassists came and went. Phillips signed on in the summer of 2013, solidifying the bass chair and adding the kind of expressive vocals the band had lacked. The group started playing locally soon thereafter, performing at Collins Ale House in Stormville, Mamma's in Pawling, and the Pawling Public Radio Festival, among other venues.
