Carola Ortiz: 

voice, clarinet, bass clarinet, improvisor & composer

Born 1986 near Barcelona, she received classical and jazz higher education. She also learns a lot joining with different musical ambients: grewing up in jazz clubs, playing with her father, then playing flamenco in las cuevas del Sacromonte, and traveling from Rio to play in rodas de choro to Istanbul jaming turkish gispsy tunes but equally improvising with the Berlins underground music scene. Carola loves playing, composing and improvising music as learning new ways to express herself. She doesnt think artistic boundries exist.

In 2010 she released a tour with a trio where she sang the music from Thelonious Monk and danced and acted through her own lyrics inspired by the character Little Red Riding Hood. She performed twice in International Jazz Festival of Barcelona (conducted by Maria Schneider and also with LUMMM), in Festival Jazz de Vic, Festival Internacional de Cadaqus (1st part of Maceo Parker) and twice in LEM where she was elected to be the 2011 resident artist getting involved in interdisciplinary experiences with dance and visual arts. She also performed in international festivals in Portugal, France, Germany and Colombia.

She recently released her first album AxisOrca besides producer Landy Gana and also collaborates with jazz pianists Llus Vidal and Jonathan Crayford, with hurdy-gurdy player Marc Egea, and in a few groups as Moussakis (Balkan music) and TetraPack among a lots of other collaborations, including the film-maker Liliana Merizalde.
