"Long Island Entertainment"

"Throughout the set I watched as Dan Acosta went about slicing heads with his searing guitar work backed by a roll of thunder from drummer Mike Sepe; but this all held together right on the edge by bassist Steve Gusz [Reverand Ferret].

Each of the original songs were not only well written, but they were executed with all of the passion that good ass-kicking rock and roll should have. Axis Unknown is a real take-no-prisoners band that you should really make a point to see... Check out their schedule and get out and see them live." - Richard L'Hommedieu

...Next up was heavy metal wonder turned acoustic confessor, Dan Acosta from the power trio, Axis Unknown. Dressed in jeans, bandana, and a sleeveless Batman t-shirt,Dan gave the audience a treat with songs based on personal life experiences. His delivery was passionate and soulful (ala Springsteen, Hootie and the Blowfish) and he touched listeners with his authenticity. Five of the six songs he performed are from his Cd, "a day in the life of a Super-hero..."

"Devil's Creek" was a good-time rocking song, while "B.d.B." told the tale of misspent youth and how things change. Although adulthood has its responsibilities, Dan looked back on his teenage years with no regrets, because his experiences made him the man he is today. In "Your Lovin' Drives Me Wild," Dan confessed, "When I wake up in the morning and you're layin' by my side, it always makes me smile / 'cause your lovin' drives me wild."

Although Dan said that
"South of Baghdad" is not a political song, it was perhaps one of the strongest songs of the night. The lyrics are actual words from his brother-in-law who was sent over to fight the war in Iraq. When he lamented, "I left a boy and came back a [military] man," we knew he had said it all. Dan closed [his set] with "Miles Away," a special request from his mother. "If I don't play this song, she'll take me out back and kick my butt!" Needless to say, Dan kicked butt himself on the song. You can visit Dan at http://www.myspace.com/danacosta . - Kathy Donahue

Dan Acosta presents a scary figure (with the facial piercings and all),but with an acoustic guitar in his hands, he sings tender, rhythmic songs extolling the virtues of friends and family, and the vagaries of growing up - or at least growing older. - Hank Stone

"EVENT ROCKS TO HELP THE HOMELESS"

By Stephen Feller (from Long Island's "Suffolk Life" newspaper)
Wednesday, December 15, 2008

Bands from all over Long Island and New York City, as well as Connecticut and Rhode Island, among others, came together Saturday, December 4, 2008, to raise money to help homeless people across Long Island.

As part of the eighth annual "Rock 4 XMAS", several hundred people crowded the Kings Club in Centereach to help contribute to the Nassau-Suffolk Coalition For The Homeless.

According to event organizer Wayne Morrison, owner of Morrison Music and Production, this year's event raised over $5.000 through ticket sales, raflles, and donations made both at the show, and through the Rock 4 XMAS website.

"From its inception eight years ago, the level of love has grown so much," Morrison said. "It's not just the depth of the people who come [to the showl - it's volunteers, the performers, and the people we try to help ... There's no monetary gratifications for us, it's a camaraderie, between the people, even between the companies who sponsor it."

Morrison started the Rock 4 XMAS Foundation in 1996 to raise money and help people by holding concerts around the country, and raising funds on their website. Because it is for charity, most of the people involved are volunteering for work, including the performers, some of whom don't live in New York, but come from other states, such as Chrio, who hails from Connecticut, and Beyond Blonde, who came in from Rhode Island.

''The performers play... as though they're getting paid to play Madison Square Garden, which they're not." Morrison said.

Also performing at the event were Axis Unknown, Enuff Z'Nuff, and members of Blue Oyster Cult, Badfinger and Great White, among others. The wide selection of items raffled away to the crowd included boxing gloves signed by Sugar Ray Leonard, autographed guitars from Tesla and Eddie Money, and a drum head signed by Eric Singer, baseballs autographed by members of the Boston Red Sox, a basketball signed by members of the Boston Celties, and a smattering of autographed pictures from musicians and sports stars.

Morrison said he is already looking ahead to next year when they "hope to make it grow again, as it has for the past eight years."
