Ayana Thomas

As a lifetime resident of Detroit, MI, the Motown sound and the sound of music have been embedded in this woman's soul. Ayana demonstrated astounding skill as a vocalist as a small child, and was singing along with Minnie Ripperton recordings by the time she was five years old. Her gift for singing was noticed at an early age; often standing out in church choirs, band and school ensembles for her impeccable ear and ability to catch on with ease. Between the ages of eight and twelve Ayana could be seen performing and traveling with Detroit artist Toni Booker and the Booker Singers.

After graduating David Mackenzie High School where she was a member of concert choir, solo and jazz ensembles, Ayana attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA where she studied music education and became a member of Mu Phi Epsilon Professional Music Fraternity. Ayana was awarded roles in opera productions such as Carmen and Amaal and the Night Visitors just to name a few. Ayana also attended Wayne State University in Detroit, MI where she majored in vocal music performance and studied with Frances Brockington.

Ayana has lent her incomparable vocal and music talents to numerous recording sessions and performances with Marvin Winans, Vickie Winans and Lexi. She was also a member of the Grammy nominated female gospel group Witness and recorded the album Love is an Action Word with them, showcasing lead and background vocals. Also showcasing her versatility as an artist, Ayana has also been a member of the Rackham Symphony Chorus in Detroit and Michigan Opera Theater Auxiliary Chorus, under the direction of maestra Suzanne Acton.

Ayana is a dedicated an accomplished vocalist, song-writer and worship leader with both professional and education experience. Her vocal training, experience and God-given talent give way to her versatility as a vocalist and songwriter. It is the knowledge that Ayana has obtained through perseverance, professionalism, practical application and Gods gift that give her a truly unique sound. The sound of spirit-filled Gospel, soulful Rhythm and Blues, smooth jazz and riveting classical tones all personified in the voice of Ayana Thomas.
