Bio

As a young pianist and music composer, Ayana Baker has been playing the piano since the age of six and writing music since the age of twelve. Growing up, she successfully organized a gospel singing group her last year in Jr. High School, and named the group The New Spirit Youth Choir. With the permission of her Jr. High School principal, the group performed during their graduation ceremony. However, this was not a one-time performance for The New Spirit Youth Choir. The group went on to perform during the entire summer receiving weekly invitations to perform for several churches in Houston.
Ayana Baker’s first song that was written and copyrighted was a gospel song titled “God Shall Lead Me On”. She first performed this song at the church she attended and then again in a talent show in which she made it to the final round at “People’s Workshop.” Not believing that a song of deep emotion and self written serious lyrics, the president of “People’s Workshop would ask her each time before she went on stage if she had really written both the music and words to this song.
While attending high school, Ayana again recruited a group of students to sing for the school’s Black History program. Ayana played and led a gospel song during the Black History program at Lamar High School. The group of students performed every year thereafter for the school’s Black History program and had weekly engagements at different churches all over Houston. After Ayana graduated from Lamar High School, the gospel choir that she founded was named the United Voices of Lamar and was approved as an elective class for students to take during school hours. Ayana received a scholarship in music from Houston Baptist University her senior year in high school and graduated with a BA degree.
Recently Ayana Baker has been on VH1’s Song of The Year suggested artist list and placed in the top five finalist of VH1’s Song of The Year in July of 2005. Her first concert that she put together was July 25, 2005 at the Multi-Service Center where she performed three original songs that she produced. Since her fans enjoyed and loved her first performance she was asked to do another concert. She held a second concert that summer on August 27, 2005. Ayana put out her first Hip-Hop/R&B CD August 2005 titled Feel My Vibe that is currently selling on CD Baby. She is currently in the studio working on her sophomore album that will be featured in a book she wrote called Create Your Own Music CD that will be out this July 2007 under Inspired Dream Publishing, LLC.
