Ayo The Nigerian Nightmare

Growing up in the inner parts of Lagos, Nigeria, and moving to America as a teenager, strongly influenced and still inspires Ayo The Nigerian Nightmare’s hip hop music and life perspective. Ayo’s music and poetry have gained attention by the music industry and music aficionados; serving on a panel with the likes of Lupe Fiasco, Byron Hurt and Toni Blackman, performing at legendary poetry venues like the Nuyorican Poet’s Café, and doing live music shows with his band AYOINMOtion.

Based in New York City, Ayo’s sound is hip hop with influences of afrobeat and jazz. In his own words, Ayo says, “I am inspired by the struggle and strength growing up in Lagos Nigeria and subsequently Flint, Michigan gave me. I juxtapose my experiences with words because my music is one of the few times I am really vulnerable. It all feels intrinsic.”
