Bio

For the past two years the duo has taken their Okie Cowpunk live to Country, Rock, Punk, Indie, and Alternative music venues all across America including Tulsa, Memphis, Nashville, Austin, and NYC. They have performed at the Infamous Tootsies in Nashville, Rusty's of Austin, and a Metal fundraiser benefiting BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse) in Memphis. Babs’ has achieved international recognition with CD sales in England, Germany, Poland, India, and Canada among her growing list of over 3,000 fans.

The Babs Martin duo is being hailed as the Bonnie and Clyde of music. Babs and J.A. were both born in San Diego, CA. After a life of hard travels through the desert and Route 66, the duo met 25 years later in Oklahoma. Their creative sparks collided into a partnership that is musically like no other. By combining Babs’ Smoky Vox with JA’s Outlaw Clawhammer Rock, the duo creates a blend of original music that brings Country Punk into the new era.

Babs has been singing in bars since she was three. She draws on the best of Blues, Swamp Rock, and Country to create a style that is as distinct as mixing Grace Slick with Waylon Jennings. Babs naturally gravitates to writing rebel lyrics from her experience as a published poet in numerous gritty anthologies and edgy magazines.

J.A. has been pioneering banjo since 1978. He won banjo fiddle contests on the West Coast throughout the early 80's in addition to recording for PBS Gold Rush Documentary. Since then he has been busy reinventing the clawhammer sound on electric guitar. He captures those low lonesome growls like a junk yard dog and driving beats like a freight train. J.A. combines his influences of Uncle Dave Macon, Led Zeppelin, and The Sex Pistols with his alternative tunings for a truly flavorful experience.

Babs Martin is out there breaking music rules and crossing genres. Their fans report the duo delivers a moving, shamanistic, captivating performance with their Cowpunk, rebel ways. They are creating a movement of Bandits made up of rugged individuals seeking new heights of freedom that they find in Babs Martin’s brand of Okie Cowpunk.
