"Baby Shakes "shake shake" b/w "on a friday" 7" (Douchemaster Records)"

If the Baby Shakes sounded any more like Nikki and the Corvettes....Well, actually they couldn't sound any more like Nikki and the Corvettes. But you'll hardly consider that a bad thing if you're like me and (rightfully) rank Nikki and the Corvettes as one of the 25 greatest rock and roll LPs of all-time. The Baby Shakes' debut single, expertly produced by the great Dave Carbona, is just about perfect. If this sort of stuff ain't your cup of tea, then the Baby Shakes aren't going to bring you over from the dark side. But if fun-time, sugary-sweet girlband rock and roll is your thing, you're gonna wear out your needle spinning this slab of joy.

Infused with pepped-out cutesy-chick vocals and bopping Chuck Berry backbeats, both of these numbers evoke an eternal 1962...It's a warm Saturday night, and you and your honey are cruising with the top down, making out at red lights, and cranking "Palisades Park" at full blast. You stop at the drive-in for milkshakes at 1:00 AM, the sweet scent of teenage sex still oozing from the backseat - and "Shake Shake" is blasting from every car speaker in the lot. Life is good, man!

Records like this one are the reason that 7-inch vinyl can never die - it just wouldn't be the same on CD.

Bio

The Baby Shakes are a young all female rock n roll-powerpop band from New York City. With catchy melodic vocals over dirty guitars and a killer rhythm section, their influences range from the Buzzcocks and Nick Lowe to Chuck Berry and 60’s Motown girl groups.
Since formed in January 2005, they’ve accomplished touring the entire west coast to Atlanta, as well as playing local dive bars and reputable venues around New York City. They have also played dates on the Van’s 2006 Warped Tour. They currently play with well-known bands in the local scene and have also played with international bands such as The Star Spangles and The Undertones, as personally requested by the bands.
Baby Shakes first single debuted January 2006 on DMR Records (Atlanta), successfully selling copies internationally. Currently, they are planning a Midwestern Tour in Dec. 2006, releasing their second single along with their debut full-length on Mean Buzz Records, and working on their first music video.
Being a dedicated, ambitious band that have booked, promoted, and managed themselves, they’ve received international and national radio airplay from coast to coast, mentioned on the BBC website, Alternative Press Magazine, Nylon magazine, and appeared on Manhattan Cable Access Channel.
