Bio

Baby Wants Candy, the world’s premier musical improvisation theater group has entered its 9th year of open run in Chicago. BWC asks the audience for a suggestion of a musical that has never been performed before. The first title they hear then becomes the basis and title for that 60 minute one act musical. Using this format BWC has performed over 1,200 different musicals. Founded in Chicago in 1997, BWC has performed completely improvised musicals to sold-out crowds from Singapore to Edinburgh.

Along with the immensely popular Chicago rock opera, Baby Wants Candy has unveiled the opening of Baby LA, the west coast “branch”. Baby LA will serve to cement BWC as one of the nation’s favorite comedy groups. In addition, Baby Wants Candy was awarded “Ensemble of the Year” at the acclaimed 2005 Chicago Improv Festival.

Jack Helbig, of the Chicago Reader, praises “The Improvised Rock Opera, by Baby Wants Candy, shows that the group has become the very model of smart, physical, quick-thinking, and just plain silly long-form improvisation.” Edinburgh’s The Scotsman says “Chicago’s Baby Wants Candy could convert the most cynical enemy of musicals with their improvised version, which combines creative wit with awesome performances. They are an entertainment phenomenon and I am in awe of their talent. You cannot fail to have your world rocked by these people. I have one word for it: Go!” and TimeOutNY awarded BWC “Best Visiting Comedy Show” asking readers “Don’t like musical improv? Neither did we until we saw this truly outstanding Chicago troupe.”

Baby has featured performers Stephanie Weir and Nicole Parker (MADtv), Rachel Dratch and Seth Meyers (SNL), Jack McBrayer and Mark Pender (Late Night with Conan O’Brien) and Garry W. Tallent (Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band) to name a few. BWC has become a training ground and talent pool of some of the nation’s strongest comedic and musical talent.
