Bio

As their song states, BACHELOR of NOTHING wants to “bring it all back - the roots, the rock, the show”. True to their lyrics, the band delivers a potent stage performance that gives their audience a feast of old school guitar rock infused with modern pop. The broad spectrum of original songs range from love ballads to hard rock anthems, all resonating with 80’s-inspired guitarwork.

BACHELOR of NOTHING was formed in 2003 in London, Ontario where drummer Bugs was enrolled at Fanshawe College. It was there that Bugs met lead singer Skid Watson and, after a quick introduction to long time friend and lead guitarist Halsey, BACHELOR of NOTHING was born. The name was chosen for its irony since bandmates collectively hold university degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Biology, English, and Education as well as college diplomas in Electro-mechanical Engineering, Music Production, and Digital Applications.

Drawing on each person’s unique style, the band collaborated to develop a sound that updated classic rock. Armed with a large repertoire of original music, BACHELOR of NOTHING quickly released their first album, Freshman, which was well received by London fans. Several songs incorporated a pop/punk edge and the playlist included a number of politically charged tunes. One track on the album was a tribute to the work of Canada’s renowned environmental activist, David Suzuki, who extended his accolades personally to the band.

After a year of successful shows and CD sales, BACHELOR of NOTHING relocated to the Toronto area where Ritchie and his bass guitar joined the group. The band proceeded to release their second full-length album which garnered positive reviews from industry executives such as legendary Guns N' Roses producer Mike Clink. The self-titled album reveals that Skid Watson has a number of distinct voices ranging from soft and mellow to the screech of a well-tuned trash can. Halsey’s guitar co-pilots the songs with bright riff-oriented playing that is reminiscent of the arena rock that typified the 80’s. The sound of this decade also surges through Bugs’ stadium-style drumming and lends a powerful driving force to the music. Ritchie’s bass guitar rounds out the sound on this album with percussive rhythms that you can really sink your teeth into while offering a few unexpected surprises for listeners.

While promoting their albums and playing clubs in the Toronto area BACHELOR of NOTHING has developed an army of devoted fans. In addition, the band has independently produced a live DVD and short rockumentary. These tools along with regular contests and promotions are used to regularly interact with an e-mail fan group numbering almost ten thousand. BACHELOR of NOTHING has also lent their talent to a number of charitable organizations including an appearance with SUM 41 to raise money for WarChild and a partnership with Canadian Blood Services.

Ever the architects of their own success, BACHELOR of NOTHING is currently in the process of independently writing, recording and releasing a third album in as many years. At their current pace BACHELOR of NOTHING is poised to take their music to a national audience and introduce a new generation to quality rock from a band that is the real deal.
