Bio

"Backflow could be described as a “garage band”, if it means they write catchy tunes with great hooks, and give raw, powerful performances as musicians. In Backflow’s style you’re sure to notice the influence of the ‘90s Seattle music scene, but at the same time you’ll also hear a whole new approach to that genre that defies categorization. Backflow has successfully taken grunge out of the ‘90s and given it their own unique 21st century twist. They have created a whole new brand of hard, brooding rock, taking grunge to the next step beyond . Listening to Backflow’s songs will satisfy your longing for that “Seattle sound”, while at the same time, you’ll love their new and fresh approach to hard rock.

Backflow was born January 1, 2007 in Riga, Latvia, reinventing itself from the members’ previous popular and powerful band, Mary Jane. From 1996 to 2007, Mary Jane was repeatedly acclaimed by the critics, compiling a long list of awards and being frequently reffered as "one of the best live acts in Latvia". In 2004, Australian director, Tom Francis, turned their hit single “Gasoline” into a Top 5 video on SEMS TV. In 2005, Mary Jane’s only full-length release, “Lost Innocence Vast Ego” was nominated for Best Rock Album of the year at the Latvian Music Awards.

Mary Jane also participated in the Global Battle of the Bands in Berlin in 2006. And as their final act of excellence before changing their name and musical direction, Mary Jane was named Band of the Week in January 2007 by Belgian Radio Frequence Ardennes for their hit single, “Real Rock ‘n’ Roll”.

So, it should come as no surprise that Backflow is continuing the fine musical tradition they started as Mary Jane. Backflow has won Best New Band on the popular Radio SWH which sent them to the Positivus AB Music Festival in June, on the same bill with the Stereophonics and DJ Lethal, among others! Backflow also played at two European music festivals in August, then won the right to play at the Coke Live Festival in Poland later that same month with their single “Let Me Be Your Star Falling Down On You”."
