Backlash

Backlash

BandRockCover Band

Rock & roll like mom used to make! Guitar driven rock with an old school sound, Backlash has released 4 cd's and have opened for some major acts. The band also performs Pink Floyd's "THE WALL" in it's entirety, with construction of the wall, lasers, & animation. Also plays classic rock covers.

Biography

BACKLASH was formed in Topeka, Kansas in 1993. Band members have come and gone over the last 17 years but the band has stayed true to what made them popular all this time: play great, danceable music and become involved with the crowd.
Backlash plays high energy good time classic rock and roll, primarily the late 60’s/early 70’s rock but has dabbled in hits from all across the board. Around 2001 the band began to write and record their original material and release them on cd. In 2003 “Dressed For Success” was the first Backlash cd released followed by “No Quarter No Mercy” in 2004 and “Tattooed Nation” in 2006.
In May 2009 the band released their 4th cd “Backlash” , the first album to be available globally on the internet for single and full track download. The band has received radio airplay and some very good cd reviews. The band at one time had 4 dvd’s available along with other merchandise such as t-shirts, hats, panties, teddy bears, even lunch boxes. The fan base over the years for the band has become loyal and big, spreading across not only state lines but also fans are found in Europe and as far away as Thailand.
The group has played some great festivals, bike rallies and charity events, but some fine mentions are some of the big name bands that Backlash has had the chance to open for, including Steven Piercy of Ratt, Artimus Pyle from Lynard Skynard, White Lion, Doro Pesch (from Warlock), Eddie Money, Cheap Trick, and Alice Cooper. Finding their place in any small bar or huge club, Backlash can rock a crowd
of 7 or 7000 people, and get them involved as well.
Backlash is also known for never playing the same show twice. There is never a set list, but rather a list of almost 300 songs that are played by what the audience wants to hear. The band is not afraid to take a chance on something they’ve never attempted live before, and the rawness and unpredictability of any given show on any given night is what keeps the music, the energy, and the sets for the show fresh.
In 2008 the band started performing Pink Floyd’s THE WALL in it’s entirety, including construction of the wall between the band and the audience, animation and graphics shown on the wall, lasers, smoke and fog, and full production lights and sound. The band still plays this show on select dates at select venues.
Currently the band consists of four of the best musicians around, including 1993 original Backlash member Shawn Ames on guitar and vocals, Brian McGuire on guitar and vocals, Ron Prothe on drums and vocals, and the most recent addition to the line-up, Chris Nicklay on bass. Chris replaces Backlash bassist Danny Tallent, who was in a horrific car crash in May 2008 that claimed the life of his wife Ashley and left Danny partially paralyzed on his left side. The band spent the winter of 2008 and spring of 2009 off of the road to finish and release their latest cd and hire a new replacement. With Chris on the bass the band looks forward to booking and performing shows in the fall of 2009 and beyond.
The band also owns and runs their own lights and sound, if needed. The band uses a 16 channel P.A. run by an available sound man and the lights are controlled by the band on the stage.

Stand Up

Written By: Danny Tallent/Shawn Ames/Brian McGuire/Ron Prothe

YOU CAN’T BE SEEN, YOU CAN’T BE HEARD
IF YOU CAN’T BACK UP EVERY WORD
STAND UP TALL, STAND UP PROUD
RAISE YOUR FISTS AND SCREAM OUT LOUD
(CHORUS)
STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN
STAND UP GOT TO MAKE THEM LISTEN
STAND UP FOR WHAT YOU BELIEVE
STAND UP FOR YOU AND ME
CRY ALL NIGHT, CRY ALL DAY
IT DONE MEAN A THING TILL YOU STAND UP AND SAY
I’VE HAD ENOUGH, I WON’T TAKE ANYMORE
GOT TO TAKE A STAND, PUT MY FEET TO THE FLOOR
(CHORUS/1ST SOLO)
STAND IN FRONT, DON’T STAY IN BACK
LET YOURSELF BE SEEN, PREPARE TO LEAD THE PACK
THEY’LL FOLLOW YOU IF THE CAUSE IS TRUE
TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH HERE’S WHAT YOU’VE GOT TO DO
(CHORUS/2ND SOLO)
STAND FOR THE SILENT, STAND FOR THE WEAK
STAND FOR THE CHILDREN, STAND FOR PEACE
STAND FOR THE GOOD FIGHT, STAND AGAINST THE WAR
STAND UP IF YOU CAN’T TAKE ANYMORE
(CHORUS/END SOLO)

Time Flies

Written By: Danny Tallent/Ashley Tallent

LOOKING THROUGH SOME PHOTOGRAPHS
CAN’T BELIEVE HOW TIME GOES FAST
FLYING BY ME OH SO FAST
HOW I WISH I COULD MAKE IT LAST

(CHORUS)
OH MY HOW THE TIME FLIES
THE OLDER YOU GROW IT PASSES YOU BY
WAITING FOR THE DAY YOU DIE
WHEN IT COMES DON’T WONDER WHY

AS I LOOK BACK ON MY LIFE
SO MANY WRONGS, NOT ENOUGH RIGHTS
WISH I COULD APOLOGIZE
FOR ALL MY ERRORS, ALL MY LIES
(CHORUS/SOLO)

LIVE EACH DAY LIKE IT’S YOUR LAST
LIKE I’VE TOLD YOU TIME GOES FAST
ONE DAY THIS WILL BE THE PAST
LIKE LIFE IN THOSE PHOTOGRAPHS
(CHORUS/END SOLO)

Tattooed Nation

Written By: Brian McGuire

Sweet sleek thundering machine
Infatuation that fills my dreams
The caress of the wind, vibration between my thighs
My favorite sin, a magic asphalt carpet ride
Makes every part of me feel alive
Pounding pistons like a heartbeat inside
It's a feeling that words can't describe
Pure freedom and unfathomable pride
It's my soul's obsession
An iron and chrome creation
Part of your one percent population
The latest member of the Tattooed Nation

Growling motor, triple plated chrome
Suicide shift and shotgun drone
Stretched and raked, bars scraping the sky
But it wasn't made for looks, it was made to ride
A 93 cubic inch sensation
My black and chrome creation
I'm your one percent population
Another member of the Tattooed Nation

Distant thunder shaked your heels
The swarming storm, Hell on wheels
A growling pack of demon machines
V-twin roar that sounds obscene
We're the Brothers of the modern tribe
Bred for freedom and born to ride
Modern day gypsies of the open road
The "lawless" breed who lives by the warrior code
Brotherhood's our salvation
Esprit de corps our foundation
We're your one percent population
The members of the Tattooed Nation

The Evil In Me

Written By: Shawn Ames

I was going to my girlfriends house for a date
Ran out of gas so I was running late
Stopped in the store bought some whiskey and smokes
Ran out of money so I was broke
I pulled to the house and I stopped the car
I saw her dad standing in the front yard
She stood beside him as sad as could be
He opened his mouth and then he said to me
"I know you're not going out this late's
I got news for you, boy, let's get this straight
Now this is my daughter and I love her death
And I'm her father 'till my dying breath
Now look, scumbag, you touch her and you die
And don't you dare make my little girl cry
Gimme one good reason why i should let her go
C'mon, I've got to know.."
It's just the evil in me
It's just the evil in me
I'll behave like I know I should
But I'm telling you, dad..you're daughter looks good
It's evil, it's just the evil in me

Driving too fast moving down the road
Everybody else seemed to be driving slow
The stars were shining way up in the sky
I saw the moon in my girl's eyes
I passed a cop doing a hundred and ten
I tried to lose him, ran out of gas again
I knew that this was the end of my race
He pulled me over and got in my face
(He said)
"What, are you crazy? I should throw you in jail
Give you life in prison with no chance at bail
You kids think you're smarter than Johnny Law
Get outta the car, this is the last straw
What's that smell, is that a bottle of Jack?
I bet her old man's gonna have a heart attack
Answer my question before you go inside
I just want to know why"
It's just the evil in me
It's just the evil in me
I can't eat, I can't sleep
It's gotta be the devil inside of me
It's evil
It's just the evil in me

Droogies

Written By: Shawn Ames

My boys and I will take you down
To the dark alley's on the edge of town
Kicking bottles and glass under your feet
Smell the fresh rain on the city streets
Right before your very eyes
we'll whittle your numbers down to size
'Till one of you actually comes to terms
That tonight you're the next one to sleep with the worms

(chorus)
A knife fight anytime you say
In the black of night or in the heat of the day
In the hallways or out in the street
Wherever you want to be that's where we'll meet
Get a note from your mother and pack yourself a lunch
And bring the best of all your wild bunch
The city streets are empty tonight
Can you feel it? The time is perfect for a fight

My reputation is still intact
As I make you eat my baseball bat
Your best friend's lying down on the ground
With three broken ribs and his brains spilling out
I'm really not the vicious type
But I like the thrill of a really good fight
If you've got the balls c'mon back again
And we'll have more fun with me and my friends
(chorus)
