Bio
Since forming in October 2010, the members of Back to Kerouac have shared the same vision: to earn a crust making music which makes a difference.
Already four friends, the to-be members of Back to Kerouac met one fresh summers evening over several warming liquids. The concept was clear, and the strategy simple. Create songs which are effective and pure, write about what we think we know and ensure every performance can be felt, not just heard. Acoustic folk with a pop edge quickly became the style which best communicated the philosophy of the band. Songs such as "The Way" and "Brand New" have a nostalgic charm which capture the rebellion and artistic character of the bands centre piece: Jack Kerouac. The novelist and poet is best known as a pioneer of the beat generation and the author of ‘On the Road’ which was originally penned on a 120ft single roll of tracing paper. Creative, original and fun: Jack seemed the perfect symbol to present Back to Kerouac.
Launching on the scene in December 2010, Back to Kerouac's debut gig was at the sell-out Christmas show playing to hundreds at the Concorde 2, Brighton. The gig was a resounding success and as a result the band have already been invited to play alongside leading folk artist Seth Lakeman on his sell-out tour and the Bristol Folk Festival. Throughout 2011, Back to Kerouac will be releasing their debut album which has already been recorded, and touring all over the UK intent on finding like-minded people.
Becoming instrumental with Back to Kerouac's live success is the presence and raw chemistry on stage. Ranging from chants to claps and shouts, one should not and will not expect the next move from one song to another. Above all, Back to Kerouac are friends inside and out of the band, taking the music (not themselves) seriously. This spirit creates a majeure on energetic, anthemic and almost primal songs such as "Be Myself". Let your vocal chords run dry and sing in rapture and you too will see that things almost always "Happen for a Reason".
Back to Kerouac are: Tarq Elphick, Simon Davies, Ross Lower, and Otto Metaxas.
