"EP Review: Bad Bloom - Leave (2021)"

Rochester is 200,000 inhabitants town in the State of New York, and by the way it is a sister city of my currrent home town Würzburg. Way more important, it is home to Kate Rogers and Jay Trovato who together are Grungegaze duo Bad Bloom. Formed in 2019, they released their debut EP "Candle" in the same year. After the planned 2020 tour had to be canceled due to... 2020 things, Bad Bloom did not lose their passion for atmospheric, emotional, and dynamic rock music. The result of their recent works is the EP on hand, called "Leave".

"Leave" features five tracks of sensual, thoughtful, and psychedelic music. Driven by the energy of late-90s Grunge and Alternative Rock sound, loaded with fuzzy effects, and illuminated by colourful Dream Pop and Shoegaze, Bad Bloom have created a deeply soulful EP. The soundscapes on "Leave" are defined by an impressive alloy of heaviness and reverie. This sound perfectly musicks the themes of escapism concerned in the five songs. Bad Bloom intonate an honest and comprehensible picture of life between all of its heaviness on the one hand, and the hopes and dreams that keep us alive on the other.

"Leave" is an EP to close your eyes to, a release to light a candle, maybe pour a glass of wine (I'd go with dry red here), and enjoy every breath. Bad Bloom have produced a beautiful sonic journey for the dreamers, the lovers. and the thoughtful here. - MangoWave

"D/E Premiere: Bad Bloom"

Composed of wife and husband, Kate Rogers and Jay Trovato, Rochester, New York-based dreampop duo, Bad Bloom, bring to light another part of their upcoming album Leave, the follow up to their well-received debut three-song release, Candle, from early 2020.

New single, Fluoride, shows a more energetic, grunge rock semblance of the band's shoegazey indie rock, and puts to great use their sharp guitar-driven attributes, coming in with considerably additional fuzz.

"We've all felt weight of being on hold - being stuck in place, and not progressing," songwriter Kate Rogers comments on the new song. "There's motivation and drive but nowhere to project it; and Fluoride is about that feeling when one has a spark or energy that can't quite escape."

Bad Bloom design a sound which draws mainly from the shoegaze forefront and bands like Slowdive and Ride, with elements of post punk and approachable indie rock interfused, while on the lyrical front they counterbalance the music's musing character with refined layers of optimism. - Destroy//Exist

Still working on that hot first release.

Shoegaze/Dreampop/Grunge from Brooklyn, NY

Take me where it glows. Seemingly contemplative & bleak, Kate Rogers' lyrics transport listeners to a dreamworld that has optimism and hope; a swirling utopian world where one forgets where they were going in the first place.
In 2019, with her husband Jay Trovato, Bad Bloom was created in Queens, New York. The band recorded a three-song EP, 'Candle' inspired by shoegaze and dreampop legends Ride, DIIV, My Bloody Valentine with Post-Punk and Indie influencers such as The Cure, Talking Heads, Rainer Maria, & Jenny Lewis.
Seeking a change of pace, Jay and Kate left NYC, moved to Rochester, NY, & recorded 5 songs in the summer of 2020. 'Leave', to be released in early 2020, symbolizes the holistic need for escape, from our minds, from the earth, into the stars.
