CENTRAL PLAINS JAMBAND SOCIETY ANNOUNCES
“SAVE THE DAVE” BENEFIT AND SILENT AUCTION
FOR MOUNTAIN OF VENUS BASSIST DAVE GESUALDO

The Central Plains Jamband Society (CPJS) is proud to announce “Save the Dave” – a concert and fundraiser to benefit Dave Gesualdo.

On Friday, January 27, 2006 at 8 P.M., Californos in Wesport is hosting a concert to raise money for Dave Gesualdo, bass player for the Tampa, FL-based rock and blues band Mountain of Venus. This September, Dave was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and to help him with his mounting medical bills, we’ve assembled a powerful lineup of local and regional bands that are set to rock all night to help Save the Dave.

Come join Madison, WI-based Speakeasy, Columbia-MO based Bockman, Fayetteville, AR–based Charliehorse, and Kansas City’s own Bad Abby for a night of music and celebration. The price of admission is a mere $10, with all proceeds going to Dave Gesualdo. In addition to a night of great music, you’ll be treated to live performance painting by Kansas City and Boulder, CO artist John Bukaty, as well as a spectacular light show provided by SoulShine Liquid Lights. And to help raise even more money to Save the Dave, we’ve secured a host of great donations from local and national merchants to stock our silent auction and give away throughout the evening. Some of the amazing items we’ve lined up include:

♫ VIP Tickets to the 2006 Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival
♫ Tickets to the Sound Tribe Sector 9 show at Harrah’s Voodoo Lounge
♫ Hand-painted glass artwork from The Harvey Girls Gallery
♫ Posters and other music artwork!
♫ CDs from MayApple Records, Steve Kimock DarkHorse Productions, and others
♫ Clothing, DVDs, and more!

Over the last several years, we at CPJS have grown to love socially conscious Mountain of Venus, just as their fan base has grown to span the country. The group is full of generous souls who quickly find themselves in the good graces of those they encounter. To hear the news of Dave’s medical condition was disheartening, but his courage in the face of cancer is amazing and inspiring. Our fundraiser is but a small way to thank a kind, talented individual for sharing his gift – and we’d love to have you share in this celebration with us as we ensure Dave can continue to share with Mountain of Venus’s fans for many years to come. Help us Save the Dave!

THE PLAYERS:
~ Speakeasy ~ www.speakeasyband.com
Daniel Gold of An Honest Tune magazine notes that "Speakeasy plays with the sophisticated urban swank of Steely Dan, the unfettered eclecticism of Ween, and the crunchy showmanship of Faith No More...it's a party wherever they play." Since their inception in 1998, Speakeasy’s gained a reputation for their tasteful songwriting backed up by pull-no-punches rock and roll. The backbone features guitarist Shawn Eckels, bassist Reed Herron and drummer Ryan Fannin engaging in straight-ahead, groove-oriented progressive rock. Marcus Chatman adds texture with an amazing repertoire that includes organ, keyboard, cello, trumpet, harmonica, percussion, sousaphone, and vocal. Live shows are a strong suit – Speakeasy never fails to give audiences a different show each night. This great live energy is backed up by neck-breaking rhythms, tight instrumentation and soulful four-part harmonies that take the listener on a musical journey.

~ Bockman ~ www.euphio.net
While modern music continues to diversify at an astounding rate, it becomes even harder to classify the sound of a band such as Bockman. With feet planted firmly in the roots of rock music, looking deeper one finds it branching into a spiral of complex rhythms, but simple and grabbing melodies. Be it lyrically or musically, the dark and the light natures of life are explored. By unifying the progressive elements of rock, pop and jazz, Bockman provides a listening experience exclusive only to ears, which crave music. Bockman is Sean Canan on guitar, Danny Carroll on drums, Wil Reeves on bass, and Andrew Weir on keyboards.

Kansas City’s own Bad Abby has been gigging around town and throughout the region for over a year now. Last summer, Justin Kauffman, Matt Kruger, Micheal Thies & John Osgood began playing with Jonathan Cooper and Chip Mitchell, and the current incarnation was born. Since then, the group has been delighting audiences with their infectious, uplifting grooves, moving hearts, minds, and tail feathers alike. The band’s social conscience is a perfect match for Mountain of Venus – like MOV, Bad Abby recently hosted a benefit concert for victims of Hurricane Katrina, raising over $1500 for the Red Cross.
