Bio

Bai Kamara is a Brussels based singer/songwriter and producer, native of Sierra Leone.

Bai went to school and college in England, before moving to Belgium.

His music is described as having "a basis in soul with jazz and blues wrapped around it".
Sting is cited as an influence, alongside the likes of Curtis Mayfield, Bob Marley and Marvin Gaye.

However, Bai's personally constructed style of music has also arisen from the many various influences of his younger years in Africa. The creativity is a constant in his life.

Bai Kamara has released four solo albums so far. His latest album "This Is Home" was released in February 2012.

“Living Room” (2002) was his first acoustic solo album, which includes the hit single “Downtown St. Josse”. His second solo album “Urban Gipsy” (2005), featuring his full band, contains the single “Substitute”, which was well received nationwide.

“Disposable Society” (2010) is heavily influenced by his visit to Sierra Leone, after a 15 year absence and got a highly positive critical acclaim. Playing together with a variety of musicians from
Belgium, Cuba and Brazil, the album got a unique soul sound, with Blues, Funk, Latin, Jazz and Afro influences. This album is distinctive from the others as its more “rootsy” and organic, influenced by African and Latin rhythms, highlighting ecological and humanitarian themes that talk about our current society and our relationship with Africa.

Bai Kamara Jr. has worked with international artists such as Youssou N'dour and Dani Klein (Vaya Con Dios) and shared the stage with Habib Koité, Keziah Jones and Cassandra Wilson.

Performing live he had national and international success in venues all over Europe, in countries such as France, Ireland, Italy, Spain and Finland.

Bai is an active member of Amnesty International and as an engaged singer/songwriter he often supports nonprofit organisations and collaborates with UNICEF.

Invited by the UNHCR, for "YOUSSOU N'DOUR" in Senegal and Switzerland he worked on the project "Refugee Voices". Keeping a critical eye on the world around us, the music of Bai Kamara Jr. is captivating and always carries a positive energy.

Bai’s music has reached countries all over Europe as well as the United States and South Africa.
