Baktune

~Baktune is a modern funk ensemble from Portland, Oregon. ~This groove unit achieves an organic sound that you cannot easily classify, by fusing elements from funk, classical, latin, soul, hip-hop, prog-rock, etc. with an on the spot improv feel to how the music is performed live. ~ The concept is for the participants in the ensemble to have an improv type attitude towards the music. The participants believe this approach allows them to obatin a raw, highly mutatable sound that is acheived through the combination of tonality and personality. ~Electric bassist/student of the viola/music major Joe Watrous and drummer/Organics To You owner Chris Lantaff began this venture about a year ago. Joe met electric violinist/poet Jeff Sullivan at a recording session and whom after only a couple of minutes into our first session said "man that is sure a funky mix". The trio began developing some basic structure that they could improv upon and soon found that their improvisations kept turning into catchy little tunes. Their sound has again morphed after the addition of key-stabber and "electronic sound manipulator" Pj Dyer. Pj brings a vast knowledge of music and a fun energetic approach that has been a true inspiration to all of them!~ True to the ensemble mold this cast of musicians can vary depending on scheduling and booking.~Armed with the recent arrival of Jeremy Sauer~Electric Guitar~The unique blend of personality and tonality has morphed way passed their wildest expectations!! This ensembles hope is that music lovers and groove heads alike will catch on and spread the word as their creations evolve.
