"EP Review"

About a week ago I ran into Ryan Bale at The School of Rock as he and several other very talented young musicians were heading down to The Saloon at NC Music Factory.
After a brief conversation, Ryan was nice enough to pass me an advance copy of the new Bale & Smyth Company self titled CD. I couldn’t wait to get back to the car and pop it in and kick the volume all the way up!
I would have written a review sooner but I couldn’t stop tapping my toes and snapping my fingers to the clean and sharp rock sounds long enough to complete a sentence! (In fact, I’ve had to close iTunes while write this very brief review.)
As the first few notes of track one (Hunger for Power) began to play, I felt as if I had come face to face with a long lost friend. You know what I mean, there’s a brief period of excitement as you greet each other; smiling from ear to ear, shaking hands and giving the one armed bromance hug. Excitement turns to familiarity as you sit back and listen to your friend tell his story from the point that you last met.
Between track one, Hunger and Power, and track two, Need You, for that very brief second I thought, “WOW!! That… That was awesome!” (yea, sometimes, not only do I talk to myself but I also stutter to myself.) Without time for much other thought, Need You kicked in with another amazingly comfortable guitar riff.
Track after track continued to play and I eventually found myself playing my original vintage 1969 air drum kit to Doug Smyth’s beats as Benny Smyth thumped out the bass line and Ryan Bale belted out vocals as his guitar sang along.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to the self titled Bale & Smyth Company but if I had to guess I would say somewhere between 15 and A LOT! You would think that I would have a favorite track by now but as soon as I think I have a favorite, the next song begins.
