"Breakthrough Performances Grace Local All-Ages Event"

The third band to take over the stage, Ball & Dagger, immediately set themselves apart with their more earthy blues-rock sound. Their sincere performance flowed well with singer/guitarist Owen Nicholls’s effervescent aura, bassist Graeme Scott’s laid-back licks, lead guitarist Joel Franz’s retro-inspired riffs, and drummer J Van A’s tangible aptitude. It was also clear that this band was more mature than the previous acts, playing with a cool ease and even pulling off such covers as songs by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Alice in Chains. - Vivian Pencz

Bio

Ball & Dagger is a newer band based out of Abbotsford, British Columbia, only a stones throw from Vancouver. Our music is stripped down and driven only by vocals, a guitar or two, drums and bass. We play a genre of rock that incorporates funk filled rhythm sections, bluesy riffs, indie-style hooks and grungy, hard rock vocals.

As soon as Ball & Dagger was formed, we got to work on original material and decided to cut a demo disc as an aid for further promotion. Produced by Ryan Stewart at Bakerstreet Studios in January of 2008, the disc contains a little rock, funk, grunge and pop. Since the completion of our demo, we have got in contact with several local promoters and have been playing as many shows as possible.

Ball & Dagger was put together in mid 2007 by longtime friends, Joel Franz (lead guitar) and Owen Nicholls (vocals/rhythm guitar). Jeff Vanaseldonk (percussion) and Graeme Scott (bass) completed the lineup in late 2007. Although our group is relatively new, we all have extensive musical and live performance experience. Ball & Dagger has the highest commitment to quality songwriting, thought provoking lyrics and instrumental competency. We have continued to hone our sound by writing new music, playing shows and getting feedback from fans and musicians.
